16. Cardiac function in hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis : an echocardiographic study
Sammanfattning : Background: Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) is a lethal disease in which misfolded transthyretin (TTR) proteins accumulate as insoluble aggregates in tissues throughout the body. A common mutation is the exchange of valine to methionine at place 30 (TTR V30M), a form endemically found in the northern parts of Sweden. LÄS MER
17. Detection and Classification in Electrocardiac Signals
Sammanfattning : Signal processing can be used to condition medical signals to facilitate their interpretation, and to extract clinically important information. The purpose of the present doctoral thesis is to put forward solutions to certain problems encountered in the processing of electrocardiac signals. LÄS MER
18. Pathophysiology of intrauterine asphyxia
Sammanfattning : Background: The premature infant is at increased risk of cerebral white matter damage, oftenreferred to as periventricular leucomalacia, PVL, which is associated with later developmentof cerebral palsy and cognitive impairment. The etiology of PVL remains unclear, but ischemia-reperfusion followed by generation of free radicals and intrauterine infections havebeen suggested to play an important role. LÄS MER
19. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers
Sammanfattning : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 20. Cardio-pulmonary function in familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy : a clinical study of cases from northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy (FAP) was first reported from Portugal in 1952, but since then this syndrome has been recognized in many countries including Sweden. In this investigation cardiac and pulmonary functions in the Swedish variety of FAP were studied. LÄS MER
