  1. 1. Pathophysiology of intrauterine asphyxia

    Författare :Anna-Karin Welin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :asphyxia; ECG; endotoxemia; fetal sheep; inflammation; melatonin; periventricular leukomalacia; preterm;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The premature infant is at increased risk of cerebral white matter damage, oftenreferred to as periventricular leucomalacia, PVL, which is associated with later developmentof cerebral palsy and cognitive impairment. The etiology of PVL remains unclear, but ischemia-reperfusion followed by generation of free radicals and intrauterine infections havebeen suggested to play an important role. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Inflammation and ischemia in the developing brain - modifying effects of hyperoxia and adrenoceptor activation

    Författare :Tina Markus; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adrenergic; preconditioning; excitotoxicity; tissue culture; hyperoxia; resuscitation; asphyxia; sensitization; TNF-alpha; inflammatory mediators; hippocampus; neonate;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation and ischemia are common causes of perinatal brain damage. Ventilation with pure oxygen has previously been the prime choice during resuscitation following fetal asphyxia. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cerebral Injury in Perinatal Asphyxia, epidemiological, clinical, neurophysiological and neuromatabolic investigations

    Författare :Kristina Thorngren-Jerneck; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Neurology; Pediatri; Pediatrics; S100; EEG; CMRgl; cerebral glucose metabolism; FDG-PET; CP; infant; perinatal asphyxia; hypoxia-ischemia;

    Sammanfattning : Perinatal asphyxia with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is the most important cause of perinatal mortality and cerebral palsy (CP) in infants born at term. The aim of the thesis was to investigate epidemiology of perinatal asphyxia, and to investigate early clinical neurological symptoms after perinatal asphyxia in relation to cerebral glucose metabolism (CMRgl) measured by 18-FDG-PET, neurophysiological function, some biochemical markers, also in relation to long-term outcome.
