  1. 6. Free-Vehicle Benthic Lander Technology for the Study of Biogeochemical Processes in Marine Sediments

    Författare :Anders Tengberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine sediments; benthic fluxes; incubations; chambers; in-situ; benthic landers; autonomous vehicles; lander technology; hydrodynamics; calibration; experimental design; Partial Least Squares PLS ; sensors; fugacity; oxygen; carbon; nitrogen; phosphorus; silica; dissolved organic carbon DOC ; total carbonate; recycling; burial; lander technology;

    Sammanfattning : Various sediment sampling and incubation techniques were used to characterize benthic biogeochemical processes important for an improved understanding of the oceanic carbon cycle. Recent flux data from the Arctic Siberian shelf are revealing differences (often by a factor of ten) between areas affected by the big Russian river outlets (high fluxes) and areas with low influence from land (low fluxes). 2. 7. Brownification of freshwaters - the role of dissolved organic matter and iron

    Författare :Sara Ekström; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brownification; freshwater; water color; dissolved organic matter DOM ; iron Fe ; decreasing acidification; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : The term brownification refers to the trend of increasing water color, i.e. the water becoming browner, which has been observed throughout the northern hemisphere over the last decades. Brownification has both ecological and societal implications. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Dissolved organic carbon in tropical watersheds : Linking field observation and eco-hydrological modelling

    Författare :Fabien Rizinjirabake; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dissolved organic carbon DOC ; Rwanda; Land use land cover variability; Climate variability and change; Rukarara River Watershed; eco-hydrological modelling; field observation;

    Sammanfattning : Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a general description of the organic material dissolved in water. DOC is an important source of energy, carbon, and nutrient transfers from terrestrial to aquatic ecosystems. The export of DOC into aquatic ecosystems may contribute to the carbon balance of terrestrial ecosystems and to water degradation. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Export and sources of organic carbon in the Lena River basin, Northeastern Siberia

    Författare :Liselott Kutscher; Carl-Magnus Mörth; Per Andersson; Don Porcelli; Peter Raymond; Sebastian Sobek; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic carbon; DOC; POC; organic matter; NOM; DOM; POM; Lena River; organsikt kol; DOC; POC; organiskt material; NOM; DOM; POM; Lenafloden; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Permafrost areas are considered to be one of the largest terrestrial storages of carbon. In a warming climate these areas are expected to experience changes in carbon transport to rivers and the oceans due to permafrost thawing, which could enhance erosion, change water flow pathways and increase greenhouse gas emissions. 5. 10. Effects of inorganic nitrogen and organic carbon on pelagic food webs in boreal lakes

    Författare :Anne Deininger; Ann-Kristin Bergström; Jan Karlsson; Antonia Liess; Carolyn L. Faithfull; John A. Downing; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; autochthony; basal production; boreal; global change; dissolved organic carbon; food web efficiency; N deposition; phytoplankton; seston stoichiometry; whole lake enrichment; zooplankton; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic activities are increasing inorganic nitrogen (N) loadings to lakes in the northern hemisphere. In many boreal lakes phytoplankton are N limited, wherefore enhanced N input may affect the productivity of pelagic food webs. LÄS MER
