  1. 1. The Making of Valid Data : People and Machines in Genetic Research Practice

    Författare :Corinna Kruse; Boel Berner; Minna Salminen Karlsson; Anne-Jorunn Berg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; biomedicine; genetic research; laboratory practices; cultural practice; professional skill; uncertainty; valid data; humans – machines; objectivity – subjectivity; ethnography; biomedicin; genetisk forskning; laboratoriepraktiker; kulturell praktik; yrkesskicklighet; osäkerhet; giltiga data; människor – maskiner; objektivitet – subjektivitet; etnografi; Technology and social change; Teknik och social förändring;

    Sammanfattning : Avhandlingen undersöker ett centralt steg inom vetenskapliga praktiker: hur laboratorieprov översätts till data som anses giltiga och användbara av forskargemenskapen. Baserat på ett multilokalt fältarbete bestående av observationer och intervjuer i laboratorier för genetisk forskning, visas i avhandlingen hur laboratoriepersonalens yrkesskicklighet, samt normer och ideal om vetenskaplig forskning, formade deras praktiker av att producera giltiga data. Sammanfattning : Flooding is of great concern world-wide, causing damage to infrastructure, property and loss of life. Low-income countries, in particular, can be negatively affected by flood events due to their inherent vulnerabilities. Moreover, data to perform studies for flood risk management in low-income regions are often scarce or lacking sufficient quality. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Environmental Modelling : Learning from Uncertainty

    Författare :John M. Juston; Per-Erik Jansson; Jens Christian Refsgaard; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Models; data; error; uncertainty; hydrology; soil carbon; wetlands; phosphorus;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental models are important tools; however uncertainty is pervasive in the modeling process.   Current research has shown that understanding and representing these uncertainties is critical when decisions are expected to be made from the modeling results. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Predictive Techniques and Methods for Decision Support in Situations with Poor Data Quality

    Författare :Rikard König; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Rule Extraction; Genetic Programming; Uncertainty estimation; Machine Learning; Artificial Neural Networks; Data Mining; Information Fusion; Information technology; Informationsteknik; Teknik; Technology; rule extraction; genetic programming; uncertainty estimation; machine learning; artificial neural networks; information fusion; Computer Science; data mining;

    Sammanfattning : Today, decision support systems based on predictive modeling are becoming more common, since organizations often collect more data than decision makers can handle manually. Predictive models are used to find potentially valuable patterns in the data, or to predict the outcome of some event. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Water is essential for human well-being and healthy ecosystems, but population growth and changes in climate and land-use are putting increased stress on water resources in many regions. To ensure water security, knowledge about the spatiotemporal distribution of these resources is of great importance. LÄS MER
