  2. 2. Characterization of PAH-contaminated soils focusing on availability, chemical composition and biological effects

    Författare :Magnus Bergknut; Mats Tysklind; Dag Broman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; availability; bioavailability; chemical analysis; characterization; GC-TOFMS; bioassay; toxicity; biological testing; multivariate methods; PCA; PLS; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : The risks associated with a soil contaminated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are generally assessed by measuring individual PAHs in the soil and correlating the obtained amounts to known adverse biological effects of the PAHs. The validity of such a risk estimation is dependent on the presence of additional compounds, the availability of the compounds (including the PAHs), and the methods used to correlate the measured chemical data and biological effects. 3. 3. Methodologies to assess the fate of polar organic compounds in aquatic environments

    Författare :Jörgen Magnér; Tomas Alsberg; Dag Broman; Jan-Åke Jönsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Passive equilibrium sampler; Absorbent; Polar organic compounds; Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry; Partitioning coefficient; Fulvic acid; Sediment; PEVAC; Bag-SPE; Solid phase extraction; Pharmaceuticals; Wastewater; Sea water; UPLC-QToF; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Polar organic compounds (POCs) are chemicals with polar functional groups in their structure. The functional groups make the compounds hydrophilic and less prone to partition with biota. However, the knowledge of their fate is limited due to difficulties associated with their measurements. 4. 4. Models of the Distribution of Persistent Organic Pollutants in the Marine Environment

    Författare :N. Johan Persson; Dag Broman; Kevin Jones; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistent organic pollutants; mass balance models; fugacity models; eutrophication; PCDD F; PCB; PCN; soot carbon.; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is a group of chemicals that are toxic, undergo long-range transport and accumulate in biota. Due to their persistency the distribution and recirculation in the environment often continues for a long period of time. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Toxicological and Chemical Characterization of Organic Pollutants with Potential to Adversely Affect Fish

    Författare :Henrik Sundberg; Lennart Balk; Dag Broman; Tracy Collier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Several investigations have described adverse effects in fish inhabiting polluted areas, though the causative, or aetiologic compounds have not been substantiated. Since environmental pollutants exist as complex mixtures, reliable risk estimations are difficult to obtain. LÄS MER
