  1. 6. Aspects on wettability and surface composition of modified wood

    Författare :Lars-Elof Bryne; Ove Söderström; Charles R. Frihart; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wettability; contact angle; work of adhesion; Lewis acid-base; modified wood; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Wood is often combined with other materials such as thermoplastics, adhesives and coatings. In general, combinations of wood and polymers especially in outdoor exposure have poor long-term durability. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Today, the traditional insulator materials for high voltage powerlines, i.e. glass and porcelain, are gradually being replaced with new materials, most notably silicone rubber. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Hemicellulose as barrier material

    Författare :Hartman Jonas; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Gunnar Henriksson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hemicellulose; galactoglucomannan; plasma surface treatment; vaporphase grafting; benzylation; contact angle; oxygen permeability; solution casting; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Polysaccharides constitute an important source of raw materials for the packaging industry today. Polysaccharides have good natural barrier properties which are necessary for packaging films. Cellulose is the forerunner among renewable polymers for such applications. Hemicelluloses represent a new interesting breed of barrier materials. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Wettability of modified wood

    Författare :Maziar Sedighi Moghaddam; Agne Swerin; M. Per Calessson; E.P. Magnus Wålinder; Callum Hill; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wood; dimensional stability; dynamic wettability; surface chemistry; microstructure; swelling; multicycle Wilhelmy plate method; contact angle; sorption; acetylation; furfurylation; surface modification; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Despite many excellent properties of wood which make it suitable for many applications, it suffers from a number of disadvantages limiting its use. For instance, modification is needed to reduce water sorption and to improve decay resistance, dimensional stability and weathering performance. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Formation and properties of polyelectrolyte multilayers on wood fibres : influence on paper strength and fibre wettability

    Författare :Rikard Lingström; Lars Wågberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polyelectrolyte; multilayer; adsorption; reflectance; contact angle; dynamics; paper; mechanical properties; individual; wood fibre; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The work in this licentiate thesis examines the adsorption of polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM) onto wood fibres as a new way to influence the properties of the fibre surfaces and hence the fibres. Fundamental aspects of PEM formation on wood fibres have been studied, and discussed in terms of paper strength and wood fibre wettability. LÄS MER
