  1. 16. Development of Techniques for Characterization, Detection and Protein Profiling of Extracellular Vesicles

    Författare :Sara Cavallaro; Jan Linnros; Apurba Dev; Hakho Lee; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular vesicles; streaming current; fluorescence microscopy; atomic force microscopy; scanning electron microscopy; protein profiling; size profiling; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Nanosized extracellular vesicles (EVs, ∼30-2000 nm) have emerged as important mediators of intercellular communication, offering opportunities for both diagnostics and therapeutics. In particular, small EVs generated from the endolysosomal pathway (∼30-150 nm), referred to as exosomes, have attracted interest as a suitable biomarker for cancer diagnostics and treatment monitoring based on minimally invasive liquid biopsies. 2. 17. Generalisation and reliability of deep learning for digital pathology in a clinical setting

    Författare :Milda Pocevičiūtė; Claes Lundström; Stina Garvin; Gabriel Eilertsen; Nasir Rajpoot; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Deep learning; Digital pathology; Generalisation; Uncertainty estimation; Anomaly detection; Data distribution shift;

    Sammanfattning : Deep learning (DL) is a subfield of artificial intelligence (AI) focused on developing algorithms that learn from data to perform some tasks that can aid humans in their daily life or work assignments. Research demonstrates the potential of DL in supporting pathologists with routine tasks like detecting breast cancer metastases and grading prostate cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Molecular biological techniques as a tool in diagnostic pathology : Applications in B-cell lymphoproliferative disease, medullary thyroid carcinoma and cervical carcinoma

    Författare :Mansour Alemi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; PCR-SSCP; MTC; RET mutation; Lymphoma; HPV; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Identification of malignancy associated with mutations in gene sequences requires detection ofas little as a single base difference. A powerful technique in mutation detection is polymerasechain reaction (PCR) followed by single-strand conformational polymorphism (SSCP) andsequencing. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Inflammatory response after cataract surgery : randomized controlled clinical and laboratory studies of different surgical techniques

    Författare :Carl-Gustaf Laurell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cataract extraction; phacoemulsification; inflammation; blood-aqueousbarrier; anti-inflammatory agents; heparin surface modified intraocular lens; fluorophotometry; prostaglandins; after-cataract; corneal oedema; lasers; comparative study; randomize;

    Sammanfattning : During the last few years the phacoemulsification technique for cataract extraction has improved considerably. Because of this development phacoemulsification has recently superseded extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) as the preferred method. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The Ins and Outs of Membrane Proteins : Topology Studies of Bacterial Membrane Proteins

    Författare :Mikaela Rapp; Gunnar von Heijne; Christopher Tate; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; membrane protein; topology; dual topology; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : α-helical membrane proteins comprise about a quarter of all proteins in a cell and carry out a wide variety of essential cellular functions. This thesis is focused on topology analyses of bacterial membrane proteins. The topology describes the two-dimensional structural arrangement of a protein relative to the membrane. LÄS MER
