26. The role of adenosine and its receptor subtypes in nociception and neuropathic pain
Sammanfattning : As neurotransmitter/modulator, adenosine plays an important role in nociceptive processing. Adenosine receptors are G-protein coupled and four receptor subtypes, A1, A2A, A2B and A3 have been identified. It is well established that adenosine and its receptor agonists produce primarily antinociceptive effect in animals and humans. LÄS MER
27. The role of neuropeptides in spinal nociceptive mechanisms with special emphasis on galanin, neuropeptide Y and orphanin FQ/nociceptin
Sammanfattning : Several peptides present in sensory neurons and in the spinal cord have been recognized to have inhibitory action in nociception. In this thesis, we have used the flexor reflex preparation in rats to study the role of several proposed inhibitory neuropeptides, galanin, galanin message-associated peptide (GMAP), neuropeptide Y (NPY), orphanin FQ and nocistatin in spinal nociceptive processing under normal conditions, after inflammation or peripheral nerve injury. 28. Studies on the role of NGF in arthritis-induced pain transmission using gait and weight bearing as outcome measures
Sammanfattning : Pain is one of the most common reasons for seeking healthcare, with approximately forty percent of those suffering from chronic pain having joint pain. Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of joint pain, but currently there are few treatments available. LÄS MER
29. Neuropathic pain in an elderly population of an urban area of Iran with a special focus on carpal tunnel syndrome : epidemiological aspects, clinical characteristics, and non-surgical therapy
Sammanfattning : Background: People are getting older, and aging problems and disorders are increasing fast. Knowing the rates, causes, symptomatology, treatment, relief, and prognosis of associated disorders can help and facilitate the elderly, their families, primary health care providers, and health policymakers. 30. Genetic differences in neuropathy and opioid responses in rats
Sammanfattning : The studies examined mechanisms and treatments of experimental neuropathic pain with particular emphasis on the differences between rat strains and sub-strains in basal nociceptive sensitivity, development of neuropathic behaviors and sensitivity to opioid analgesia. In order to study the mechanisms that mediate mechanical allodynia (touch-evoked pain) following ischemic nerve injury to the sciatic nerve in rats, the myelinated primary afferents have been examined in the injured and intact nerves.
