  1. 16. Patterns of fish larvae and zooplankton distribution in mangrove-seagrass seascapes of East Africa

    Författare :Barnabas Alphonce Tarimo; Martin Gullström; Monika Winder; Mats Björk; Gunilla Rosenqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fish larvae; zooplankton; population dynamics; community structure; environmental variables; seasonal variation; habitat use; mangroves; seagrass meadows; seascape connectivity; Tanzania; western Indian Ocean; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Mangroves and seagrass meadows create coastal seascapes acting as breeding and nursery grounds for many fish species in tropical areas. Despite increased awareness on the role of these coastal habitats to fish, less knowledge is given to fish larvae distribution and population dynamics, limiting the understanding of major drivers of fish population dynamics and fisheries resources management, particularly in understudied regions such as the Western Indian Ocean. 2. 17. Excited States of Carotenoids and Their Functions in Light Harvesting

    Författare :Donatas Zigmantas; Kemisk fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spektroskopi; magnetic and optical properties; Carotenoids; light-harvesting; excited states; excitation energy transfer; femtosecond spectroscopy; supraconductors; magnetic resonance; electrical; Condensed matter:electronic structure; time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy; magnetisk resonans; supraledare; magnetiska och optiska ; egenskaper elektriska; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:elektronstruktur; relaxation; spectroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis is focused on characterization of photophysical properties of lowest singlet excited states of carotenoids and their functions in the process of photosynthetic light harvesting. It is shown that the various light-harvesting complexes utilize different strategies to achieve efficient energy transfer from carotenoids to (bacterio)chlorophylls. LÄS MER

  3. 18. The aquatic microbial food web and occurence of predation-resistant and potentially pathogenic bacteria, such as Francisella tularensis

    Författare :Johanna Thelaus; Agneta Andersson; Mats Forsman; Farooq Azam; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacteria; protozoa; ecology; predation; nutrient-availability; microbial food web; model; predation-resistance; Francisella; reservoir; biofilm formation; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : All natural aquatic systems harbour a vast variety of microorganisms. In the aquatic microbial food web, the larger microorganisms (i.e. protozoa) feed on the smaller microorganisms (i. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Climate-induced changes : Its effects on plankton food webs from the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Claudia Romero-Oliva; Edna Graneli; Linnéuniversitetet; []

    Sammanfattning : The Earth’s climate is determined different processes occurring in the atmosphere, land and ocean.Anthropogenic activities (mainly combustion of fossil fuels) have increased since the 1950’s, andthus the concentration of greenhouse gases that are warming up the planet. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Analysis of Imaging Spectrometer Data with Lake Environment Applications

    Författare :Catherine Östlund; Tommy Lindell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datoriserad bildanalys; Computerized Image Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the image processing and analysis aspects of imaging spectrometer (IS) data have been investigated for water and wetland applications. The Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) has been the main instrument in the evaluations. LÄS MER
