1. Investigation of Emission Characteristics for Diluted Flames and Renewable Fuels in Gas Turbine Combustors
Sammanfattning : Gas turbines have served as economically profitable and reliable generators of power for the past few decades, and have mainly been used in simple and combined cycles. The increased restrictions on hazardous emissions and the increased demand for profitability have created new prospects for innovative power cycles. LÄS MER
2. Seawater pH as a Controlling Factor in Macroalgal Calcification and Photosynthesis
Sammanfattning : Biological calcification and photosynthesis are important processes with a great influence on both structure and function of oceanic ecosystems. The pH of the seawater has a strong influence on both these processes and therefore the impacts of different pH levels on calcareous macroalgae were investigated in laboratory and field experiments at Chwaka and Fumba Bays in Zanzibar, Tanzania. 3. Modelling of methane and hydrogen enriched methane flames in industrial gas turbine burners
Sammanfattning : The majority of the power production in the world today is based on combustion of coal, oil and natural gas. Most countries have agreed that the amount of CO2 emitted to the atmosphere will have to be decreased to keep the global warming at sustainable levels. LÄS MER
4. Environmental, health and safety assessment of phase-change solvents for post combustion CO2 capture
Sammanfattning : A novel class of solvents exhibiting liquid-liquid phase separation upon reaction with CO2 and/or change in temperature, promises significant reduction of energy requirement of the post combustion capture by chemical absorption. However, proceeding to a large-scale application of novel materials requires holistic evaluation of the aspects related to human health, safety, and environmental impacts currently missing for phase-change solvent alternatives. 5. Achieving carbon isotope mass balance in northern forest soils, soil respiration and fungi
Sammanfattning : Northern forests contain a large part of the global terrestrial carbon pool and it is unclear whether they will be sinks or sources for atmospheric carbon if the climate warms as predicted. Stable isotope techniques provide unique tools to study the carbon cycle at different scales but the interpretation of the isotope data is impaired by our inability to close the carbon isotope mass balance of ecosystems.
