  1. 1. Bioinformatic methods in protein characterization

    Författare :Yvonne Kallberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bioinformatic methods in protein characterization;

    Sammanfattning : Bioinformatics is an emerging interdisciplinary research field in which mathematics. computer science and biology meet. In this thesis. bioinformatic methods for analysis of functional and structural properties among proteins will be presented. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bioinformatic methods for characterization of viral pathogens in metagenomic samples

    Författare :Fredrik Lysholm; Bengt Persson; Björn Andersson; Joseph F. Petrosino; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Virus infections impose a huge disease burden on humanity and new viruses are continuously found. As most studies of viral disease are limited to theinvestigation of known viruses, it is important to characterize all circulating viruses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterization of protein families, sequence patterns, and functional annotations in large data sets

    Författare :Anders Bresell; Bengt Persson; Inge Jonassen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioinformatics; sequence analysis; patterns; protein families; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Bioinformatics involves storing, analyzing and making predictions on massive amounts of protein and nucleotide sequence data. The thesis consists of six papers and is focused on proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 4. FAM167A-BLK is a susceptibility locus in autoimmune diseases : characterization of the FAM167 gene family

    Författare :Lara Mentlein; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Autoimmune diseases are complex multifactorial diseases, and their pathogenesis is only partially understood, but both genetic, as well as environmental factors, have been correlated to an increased risk for the diseases. Genome-wide association studies of Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis have identified many risk loci; most studies include associations to the FAM167A-BLK locus. 5. 5. Molecular characterization of the Ro52 autoantigen and its disease related epitopes

    Författare :Lars Ottosson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ro52; Sjögren s syndrome; autoantibodies; congenital heart block; molecular characterization; TRIM; RBCC; Zn2 ;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of high titers of autoantibodies in patient sera is characteristic for the autoimmune disorder Sjögren s syndrome. The major targets for these autoantibodies are three intracellular proteins Ro52, Ro60 and La. It is still unclear why these proteins become targets for the immune system, and how this autoreactivity is triggered. LÄS MER
