1. Signal Characterization of Atrial Arrhythmias using the Surface ECG
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis is comprised of five parts which deal with different signal processing problems in ECG-based characterization of atrial arrhythmias. Such characterization requires that the ventricular activity has first been cancelled in the ECG. LÄS MER
2. Catch Atrial Fibrillation, Prevent Stroke : Detection of atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias with short intermittent ECG
Sammanfattning : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in the adult population, affecting about 5% of the population over 65 years. Occurrence of AF is an independent risk factor for stroke, and together with other cardiovascular risk factors (CHADS2/CHA2DS2- VASc), the stroke risk increases. LÄS MER
3. Focal atrial tachycardia : Insights concerning the arrhythmogenic substrate based on analysis of intracardiac electrograms and inflammatory markers
Sammanfattning : Background: Focal atrial tachycardias are tachycardias characterized by a radial spread of activation from a discrete area of the atrial myocardium. They account for 10-15% of supraventricular tachycardias and are generally poorly responsive to pharmacological treatment. The pathophysiologic substrate of these arrhythmias remains poorly understood. LÄS MER
4. Atrial Fibrillation after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery : A Study of Causes and Risk Factors
Sammanfattning : The aim was to study pathophysiological mechanisms and risk factors for developing atrial fibrillation (AF) after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and the effect of thoracic epidural anaesthesia (TEA).The study comprised 141 patients undergoing CABG, including 45 patients randomised for TEA intra- and postoperatively. 5. The oesophageal route in clinical electrocardiology
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is the clinical use of the oesophageal electrode in electrocardiology. The three areas covered are oesophageal electro- cardiography, the biophysics of transoesophageal atrial stimulation (TAS) and the clinical utility of TAS. The literature is reviewed with respect to these areas. LÄS MER
