21. Applications of Vectorcardiography for Diagnosis and Risk Stratification in Subpopulations at Risk for Life-Threatening Arrhythmias
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Vectorcardiography, or 3-dimensional electrocardiography is a tool which can be used to identify subtle changes in the electrical forces of the heart, and which can be applied to atrial depolarization, ventricular depolarization and ventricular repolarization for prognostic and diagostic purposes. Methods: Kor’s regression-related and quasi orthogonal methods was used to derive vectorcardiographic parameters from the 12-lead electrocardiogram and applied to a cohort of cryptogenic stroke patients to assess atrial fibrillation, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients to assess for ventricular arrhythmias, applied with right-precordial directed quasi orthogonal method to arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy (ARVC/D) patients for diagnosis, and applied to ventricular repolarization only to patients with genotype-positive/phenotype-negative Long QT2 syndrome (KNCH2 mutation) to assess for cardiac events. 22. Predictors of arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and mortality in acute coronary syndrome
Sammanfattning : Background. Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) face a high risk of lethal complications, both during the hospital course and after discharge. LÄS MER
23. Hyperthyroidism and its impact on cardiovascular disease : with special emphasis on atrial fibrillation
Sammanfattning : Background: Hyperthyroidism is a common disease throughout the world, affecting 0.5%-2% of women and one-tenth as many men at some time. Graves’ disease and toxic nodular goitre are the two most common etiologies. Cardiovascular symptoms are often prominent, and atrial fibrillation (AF) is a well-known complication. LÄS MER
24. Surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation : clinical, hormonal and electrophysiological aspects of the maze operation
Sammanfattning : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia, associated with significant mortality and morbidity, due to hemodynamic impairment and the increased risk of stroke. Traditional pharmacological treatment may be insufficient or cause intolerable side-effects. LÄS MER
25. Effects of ageing and training on the human heart
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present studies was to evaluate the effects of ageing and endurance training on the human heart. One hundred and twelve healthy subjects, athletes and non-athletes, between 20 and 80 years of age and two master athletes between 70 and 80 years of age with previous myocardial infarction were investigated.
