  1. 1. Atrial fibrillation in cardiac surgery

    Författare :Anders Ahlsson; Anders Englund; Johan Brandt; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; Inflammation; CABG surgery; Survival analysis; Follow-up studies; Ablation; Microwave; Transmurality; Atrial function; Tissue velocity echocardiography; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi; Kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi; Surgery esp. Thoracic and Cardivascular Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia seen in clinical practice. In cardiac surgery, one-third of the patients experience episodes of AF during the first postoperative days (postoperative AF), and patients with preoperative AF (concomitant AF) can be offered ablation procedures in conjunction with surgery, in order to restore ordinary sinus rhythm (SR). 2. 2. Stroke during cardiac surgery : risk factors, mechanisms and survival effects

    Författare :Magnus Hedberg; Karl Gunnar Engström; Patrik Boivie; Jan van der Linden; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stroke; cardiac surgery; adult; risk factors; mortality; embolism; aortic cross-clamp; aortic cannulation; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Neurological complications and stroke in association with cardiac surgery is a serious problem. The stroke event can occur during surgery (early stroke) or in the postoperative period with a symptom free interval (delayed stroke). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Harvesting of Saphenous Vein for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting : An Improved Technique that Maintains Vein Wall Integrity and Provides a High Early Patency Rate

    Författare :Domingos Souza; Kjell Rådegran; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Saphenous vein; coronary bypass; endothelium; nitric oxide; patency rate; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis was to modify saphenous vein (SV) harvesting technique and evaluate its clinical importance. A new "no touch" (NT) technique of SV preparation was developed where the vein is harvested with a pedicle of surrounding tissue, which protects the vein from spasm therefore obviating the need for distension. 4. 4. Cerebrovascular accidents associated with aortic manipulation during cardiac surgery

    Författare :Patrik Boivie; Gunnar Engström; Magnus Hansson; Henrik Ahn; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; aortic atherosclerosis; aortic cannulation; aortic cross-clamp; cardiac surgery; cerebral protection; cerebrovascular accidents; epiaortic ultrasound; intra-aortic filter; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Despite the successful development in cardiac surgery, cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) remain a devastating complication. Aortic atherosclerosis has been identified as a major risk factor for CVA. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Atrial Fibrillation after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery : A Study of Causes and Risk Factors

    Författare :Lena Jidéus; Dan Lindblom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Atrial fibrillation; catecholamines; coronary artery bypass surgery; heart rate variability; neuropeptides; premature atrial contraction; thoracic epidural anaesthesia; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to study pathophysiological mechanisms and risk factors for developing atrial fibrillation (AF) after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and the effect of thoracic epidural anaesthesia (TEA).The study comprised 141 patients undergoing CABG, including 45 patients randomised for TEA intra- and postoperatively.
