  1. 21. Implications of land use on the carbon cycle - Impacts of long-term human activities on terrestrial organic matter input to aquatic ecosystems in southern Sweden

    Författare :Bingjie Yang; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lignin phenols; pollen; Land Reconstruction Algorithm; terrestrial organic matter; southern Sweden; sediments;

    Sammanfattning : Human activities have a huge impact on the carbon cycle by modifying the landscape. Vegetation cover changes attributed to forest clearance and the expansion of agricultural land increases soil erosion, organic matter and other nutrient delivery from terrestrial to aquatic ecosystems. 2. 22. The impact of past land-use change on floristic diversity in southern Sweden : a quantitative approach based on high-resolution pollen data

    Författare :Daniel Fredh; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the relationship between land-use and floristic diversity over the last three millennia in the uplands of southern Sweden. A quantitative approach based on high-resolution pollen data was applied, using the Landscape Reconstruction Algorithm (LRA), historical maps/aerial photographs, palynological richness and new ways to estimate past evenness at regional and local spatial scales, which enable estimates of the rate and degree of change in land-use and floristic diversity. 3. 23. Magma-Crust Interaction at Subduction Zone Volcanoes

    Författare :Ester M. Jolis; Valentin R Troll; Silvio Mollo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma-crust interaction; stable isotopes O-C ; radiogenic isotopes Sr-Nd-Pb ; calc-silicate xenoliths; HP-HT experimental petrology; crustal volatiles; Vesuvius; Merapi; Kelut; the Sunda arc; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this work is magma-crust interaction processes and associated crustal volatile release in subduction zone volcanoes, drawing on rock, mineral, and gas geochemistry as well as experimental petrology. Understanding the multitude of differentiation processes that modify an original magma during ascent to the surface is vital to unravel the contributions of the various sources that contribute to the final magmas erupted at volcanoes. 4. 24. Solar variability over the Holocene period : disentangling geomagnetic and solar influences on a new continuous 10Be record from Little Dome C, Antarctica

    Författare :Hoang Long Nguyen; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ice core; cosmogenic radionuclide; 10Be; 14C; solar activity; paleomagnetism; ; Holocene;

    Sammanfattning : Reliable information on solar activity over the Holocene period is important to predict the Sun in the future and to understand the mechanism behind the Sun-climate linkage. Presently, there are discrepancies in the proxy data of solar activity due to reasons that are not yet understood. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Provenance of the pre-Quaternary aeolian dust deposits of East Asia

    Författare :Katja Bohm; Thomas Stevens; Anu Kaakinen; Alex Pullen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chinese Loess Plateau; Red Clay; mineral dust; sediment provenance; detrital zircon; detrital rutile; Neogene; Paleogene; Earth Science with specialization in Physical Geography; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric mineral dust is a key component in the climate system, but its effect on and response to climate changes are poorly understood, especially over long timescales. This thesis investigates the sources of late Paleogene and Neogene dust deposits that formed under warmer-than-present global climates in the northern Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) region in mid-latitude East Asia.
