16. Geosystem services to support decisions on subsurface use
Sammanfattning : Awareness of the subsurface is in general low and is not a daily concern for decision-makers. This often results in that decisions on access to subsurface resources instead are guided by a ‘first come, first served principle’. LÄS MER
17. Vein controlled crystal size distributions of Barrovian index minerals
Sammanfattning : The concept of index mineral based metamorphic zones was first introduced by George Barrow in 1912, and Barrovian metamorphism is still applied by metamorphic petrologists. Today the importance of metamorphic fluids for driving metamorphic reactions is widely recognised. LÄS MER
18. Characterization of Gold Pathfinder Minerals
Sammanfattning : In this Thesis, I investigate the properties of artisanal small-scale gold mining concentrate samples from the Kubi Gold Project of the Asante Gold Corporation near Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Central Region of Ghana with a material science perspective.X-ray diffraction (XRD) is used to identify SiO2 (quartz), Fe3O4 (magnetite), and Fe2O3 (hematite) as the main indicator minerals in the mining site while contributions from pyrite, arsenopyrites, iridosmine, scheelite, tetradymite, garnet, gypsum, and other sulfate minerals were insignificant. 19. Investigations of temporal changes in climate and the geomagnetic field via high-resolution radiocarbon dating
Sammanfattning : Geological archives have shown periods of abrupt climate change in the relatively stable Holocene epoch (last ca. 11 700 years). One of these periods was around 2800 cal BP. Several records, mainly from Europe, reveal a shift towards wetter, cooler and windier conditions. LÄS MER
20. Reconstruction of Holocene atmospheric mineral dust deposition from raised peat bogs in south–central Sweden
Sammanfattning : Atmospheric mineral dust plays a dynamic role in the climate system acting both as a forcing and a feedback mechanism. To date, the majority of paleodust studies have been conducted on marine sediments or polar ice cores, while terrestrial deposition has been less studied. LÄS MER
