21. Molecular mechanisms and biological consequences of the production of non-canonical D-amino acids in bacteria
Sammanfattning : Most bacteria possess a vital net-like macromolecule – peptidoglycan (PG). PG encases bacteria around the cytoplasmic membrane to withstand the high internal turgor pressure and thereby protect the cell from bursting. In addition, PG is a major morphological determinant of bacteria being both required and sufficient to maintain cell shape. LÄS MER
22. From protein sequence to structural instability and disease
Sammanfattning : A great challenge in bioinformatics is to accurately predict protein structure and function from its amino acid sequence, including annotation of protein domains, identification of protein disordered regions and detecting protein stability changes resulting from amino acid mutations. The combination of bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics becomes essential for the investigation of biological, cellular and molecular aspects of disease, and therefore can greatly contribute to the understanding of protein structures and facilitating drug discovery. 23. Enzymes in different pathways of bile acid biosynthesis
Sammanfattning : Enzymes catalyzing side chain hydroxylations and dehydrogenation/isomerization in different pathways of bile acid biosynthesis were studied.Pig liver mitochondrial sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A) was found to catalyze 24- and 25-hydroxylation of cholesterol in addition to the known 27-hydroxylation. 24. Amino acid predictors of HIV-1 coreceptor use in different subtypes and their application to antiretroviral treatment
Sammanfattning : The human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) group M is responsible for the HIV pandemic and has great genetic variability. The main subtypes and circulating recombinant forms belonging to this group differ in their worldwide distribution, their disease progression patterns, as well as in their coreceptor use phenotype distributions. 25. Regulation of tartrate-resistant purple acid phosphatase by proteolytic processing in rat
Sammanfattning : Purple acid phosphatase (PAP) is an iron-containing binuclear acid metallohydrolase with a characteristic purple colour, also referred to as tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), uteroferrin or type 5 acid phosphatase. PAP is highly expressed in osteoclasts and has a role in bone resorption. LÄS MER
