  1. 1. Feature Informativeness, Curse-of-Dimensionality and Error Probability in Discriminant Analysis

    Författare :Tatjana Pavlenko; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistics; Matematik; Mathematics; feature selection; Discriminant analysis; feature informativeness; growing dimension assymptotics; operations research; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; Multivariate analysis; MATHEMATICS;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on four papers on high-dimensional discriminant analysis. Throughout, the curse-of-dimensionality effect on the precision of the discrimination performance is emphasized. A growing dimension asymptotic approach is used for assessing this effect and the limiting error probability are taken as the performance criteria. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pointwise and Genomewide Significance Calculations in Gene Mapping through Nonparametric Linkage Analysis: Theory, Algorithms and Applications

    Författare :Lars Ängquist; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Mathematics; Matematik; Statistics; operations research; Genetics; ROC curves; conditioning loci; optimal score functions; noncentrality parameter; cost adjusted relative efficiency; exponential tilting; importance sampling; Monte Carlo simulation; normal approximation; crossover rate; process maximum; analytical approximation; significance calculations; NPL score; conditional linkage analysis; two-locus linkage analysis; Allele sharing; aktuariematematik; operationsanalys; programmering; gene-gene interaction; composite hypotheses; genetic disease models; classes of score functions; nonparametric linkage analysis;

    Sammanfattning : In linkage analysis or, in a wider sense, gene mapping one searches for disease loci along a genome. This is done by observing so called marker genotypes (alleles) and phenotypes (affecteds/unaffecteds) of a pedigree set, i.e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Low-level analysis of microarray data

    Författare :Henrik Bengtsson; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; programmering; aktuariematematik; Statistik; operationsanalys; Statistics; operations research; programming; actuarial mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of an extensive introduction followed by seven papers (A-F) on low-level analysis of microarray data. Focus is on calibration and normalization of observed data. The introduction gives a brief background of the microarray technology and its applications in order for anyone not familiar with the field to read the thesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Rainflow Analysis of Switching Markov Loads

    Författare :Pär Johannesson; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; actuarial mathematics; programming; operations research; Statistics; rainflow matrix; fatigue; vehicle load; hidden Markov model; random load; Markov model; Switching process; Statistik; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik;

    Sammanfattning : Rainflow cycles are often used in fatigue analysis of materials for describing the variability of applied loads. Therefore, an important characteristic of a random load process is the intensity of rainflow cycles, also called the expected rainflow matrix (RFM), which can be used for evaluation of the fatigue life. 5. 5. Statistical analysis of non-Gaussian environmental loads and responses

    Författare :Ulla E.B. Machado; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; actuarial mathematics; programmering; aktuariematematik; Statistik; operationsanalys; Statistics; operations research; programming;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis deals mainly with offshore engineering related problems where the dominant source of uncertainty is related to the loading. Loads arise from environmental random processes; e.g. waves, currents and winds. LÄS MER
