  1. 26. Characterization of Impaired Glucose Tolerance - Insulin Sensitivity, Islet Function and Metabolic Risk Factors

    Författare :Hillevi Larsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; muscle fiber type; androgen activity; proinsulin; glucagon; insulin secretion; insulin sensitivity; Impaired glucose tolerance; type 2 diabetes; sekretion; diabetologi; Endokrinologi; diabetology; secreting systems;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a three-year prospective study on metabolic characteristics of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and the regulation of insulin sensitivity versus islet function in relation to changes in glucose tolerance. 108 non-diabetic women aged 57-58 years were randomly selected from a population of women born in 1935 with a high prevalence of IGT. 2. 27. Uncertainty and Robustness in Aerospace Structures

    Författare :Anders Forslund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; simulation; geometry assurance; robust design; Geometrical variation; uncertainty quantification;

    Sammanfattning : Engineering is not an exact science. In fact, all engineering activity contain some degree of assumption, simplification, idealization, and abstraction. When engineered creations meet reality, every manufactured product behaves differently. This variation can be detrimental to product quality and functionality. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Roles of SNAP-25 isoforms in activity-dependent long-term synaptic plasticity

    Författare :Muhammad Irfan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : SNARE proteins, SNAP-25, syntaxin 1A and VAMP2 constitute the functional units which join together to form the core SNARE complex. The SNARE complex carries out the vital function of membrane fusion of intracellular vesicles with plasma membranes, leading to the release of neurotransmitters in brain neuronal circuits and of hormones in endocrine glands. 4. 29. Novel computational methods for image analysis and quantification using position sensitive radiation detectors

    Författare :Alejandro Sanchez Crespo; Stig A. Larsson; Magnus Dahlbom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; SPET; PET; CMOS; spatial resolution; photon depth of interaction; positron annihilation; positron range; non-collinearity; scatter; attenuation; lung ventilation; lung perfusion; breast tumour; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The major advantage of position sensitive radiation detector systems lies in their ability to non invasively map the regional distribution of the emitted radiation in real-time. Three of such detector systems were studied in this thesis, gamma-cameras, positron cameras and CMOS image sensors. LÄS MER

  5. 30. A study of the traits associated with the biocontrol activity of Phlebiopsis gigantea

    Författare :Anthony Christian Mgbeahuruike; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Phlebiopsis gigantea has routinely been used for the biocontrol of the conifer pathogen, Heterobasidion annosum s.l. but the mechanism for the biocontrol action has not been properly understood. In the present work, 64 isolates of P. LÄS MER
