  1. 11. Rail Corrugation Growth on Curves

    Författare :Peter Torstensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; short-pitch rail corrugation; rotating flexible wheelset model; small radius curves; prediction of long-term roughness growth; plastic deformation; non-Hertzian and non-steady wheel‒rail contact; wear; rutting corrugation;

    Sammanfattning : The development of periodic irregularities with distinct wavelengths (corrugation) on the low rail of small radius curves is studied through mathematical modelling, numerical simulations, field measurements and laboratory investigations. One year of monitoring of roughness on the low rail of a 120 m radius curve on the metro of Stockholm Public Transport (SL) showed severe growth of rail corrugation with wavelengths of about 5 cm and 8 cm. 2. 12. Adhesion in the wheel-rail contact

    Författare :Yi Zhu; Ulf Olofsson; Anders Söderberg; Zili Li; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adhesion; wheel-rail contact; contaminants; tribology; Järnvägsgruppen - Tribologi; The KTH Railway Group - Tribology;

    Sammanfattning : To attract more customers and compete with other modes of transportation, railway transport needs to ensure safety, punctuality, high comfort, and low cost; wheel–rail adhesion, i.e., the transmitted tangential force in the longitudinal direction during driving and braking, plays an important role in all these aspects. 3. 13. Railway Open System Tribology

    Författare :Yezhe Lyu; Ulf Olofsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wheel; Rail; Brake; Environmental conditions; Tribology; Noise; Particle; Hjul; Räl; Broms; Miljöförhållanden; Tribologi; Ljud; Partiklar; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Sammanfattning : Tribology in the railway system is of increasing interest in the new railway era due to the demand for higher speed and load capacity. Since railway vehicles operate in an open environment, their performance depends greatly on temperature, humidity and natural and artificial contaminants. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Optimisation of Railway Switches and Crossings

    Författare :Björn Pålsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wheel and rail wear; railway turnout; optimisation; switch crossing; dynamic vehicle-turnout interaction;

    Sammanfattning : Methods for simulation-based optimisation of the design of railway turnouts (switches & crossings, S&C) are developed and demonstrated. Building on knowledge of dynamic wheel–rail interaction in turnouts, it is investigated how rail profile degradation can be reduced by the optimisation of geometry and component stiffness of the track superstructure. 5. 15. Towards Optimization of Railway Turnouts

    Författare :Björn Pålsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dynamic vehicle–track interaction; turnout; switch crossing; wheel and rail wear;

    Sammanfattning : The turnout (Switch & Crossing) is a vital component in railway networks as it provides flexibility to traffic operation by allowing trains to switch between tracks. The flexibility comes at a cost as the common lack of a transition curve in the diverging route together with the variation and discontinuities in rail profiles result in higher rail degradation rates than in regular track.
