21. Endothelin-1-immunoreactive protein and neuroendocrine differentiation and nerve supply in human non-neoplastic and neoplastic adrenal cortex : Immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, and biochemical findings
Sammanfattning : The occurrence and distribution of endothelin (ET)-1-immunoreactive (ir) protein, neuro-endocrine markers and neurohormonal peptides in endocrine cells and nerves in human non-neoplastic and neoplastic adrenal cortex are described.ET-1-ir cell groups were regularly seen in human adrenal cortex, mainly in zona fasciculata, but not in the medulla. 22. Aspects of the inflammatory response and formation of polys in the nasal and sinus mucosa
Sammanfattning : Experimental sinusitis was induced in rabbits by ostial occlusion, with or without subsequent inoculation of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus or Bacteroides fragilis The general inflammatory response, including goblet cell differentiation and polyp formation, was morphologically investigated. Polyps were experimentally induced by a combining mechanical trauma the mucosa with infection or by injection of agarose or N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (FMLP) into the maxillary sinus. 23. Vascular effects of neuropeptides and UDP-β-S and alterations after stroke
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the changes in vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) and P2Y6-mediated signaling following experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). VIP and CGRP are among the most powerful vasodilators known to man while P2Y6 mediates strong vasoconstriction in cerebral blood vessels. LÄS MER
24. Gastric acid secretion and gut peptides : mechanisms involved in inflammatory response
Sammanfattning : The regulation of gastric acid secretion is complex and involves endocrine, paracrine, and neurocrine mechanisms. Among these, the interconnecting cross-talk between different gut peptides is an important part in the control of acid secretion. LÄS MER
25. Gastric gland luminal pressure and mucosal protection : An in vivo study in the anesthetized rat
Sammanfattning : The driving force for creation of channels in gastric mucus, for acid and pepsin transport, ismost probably the hydrostatic pressure generated within the gastric gland lumen. The aim ofthis study was to investigate the origin and regulation of the glandular pressure. LÄS MER
