  1. 1. Iatrogenic Vascular Injuries

    Författare :Håkan Rudström; Martin Björck; David Bergqvist; Carl Magnus Wahlgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular injuries; vascular surgery; vascular trauma; injury; medical error; patient safety; postoperative death; postoperative mortality; patient insurance; varicose veins; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Iatrogenic vascular injuries (IVIs) and injuries associated with vascular surgery can cause severe morbidity and death. The aims of this thesis were to study those injuries in the Swedish vascular registry (Swedvasc), the Swedish medical injury insurance where insurance claims are registered, the Population and Cause of death registries, and in patient records, in order to explore preventive strategies. 2. 2. Function of granulocytes after burns and trauma, associations with pulmonary vascular permeability, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and immunomodulation

    Författare :Joakim Johansson; Folke Sjöberg; Lennart Lindbom; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ARDS; azurocidin; burn; CAP-37; critical care; granulocyte; HBP; histamine; intensive care; leucocyte; leukocyte; mediator; methylhistamine; MOF; oedema; neutrophil; permeability; PMN; trauma; vascular permeability;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Our innate immunesystem protects us from infections but, since its methods is not all specific for microorganisms, may also induce collateral damage.Severe physical injury often proved deadly throughout evolution. Such injuries may induce massive collateral damage. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On cellular sources for intimal hyperplasia after vascular interventions

    Författare :Stefan Mellander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :intimal hyperplasia; vascular intervention; smooth muscle cell; blood-born mononuclear cell; prosthetic graft; balloon injury; pig; rabbit;

    Sammanfattning : Vascular interventions for the treatment of symptomatic atherosclerosis fail in up to 40 % of the cases during the first year. One important reason is the development of a narrowing process known as intimal hyperplasia (IH). The cells forming IH resemble smooth muscle cells (SMCs) from the media of the arterial wall. 4. 4. Cold finger

    Författare :Clas Backman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; vascular; microsurgery; replantation; Cold intolerance; Vasospa;

    Sammanfattning : Post Traumatic Cold Intolerance is the most common, and often the most prominent disabilityfrom hand trauma. The discomfort caused by cold is believed to be linked to a dysfunction o f thedigital vasoregulation, but its pathophysiology is poorly understood. Cold induced vasospasm, i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Inflammatory mechanisms in experimental CNS trauma

    Författare :Jonas Isaksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Spinal cord injury; brain injury; ICAM-1; P-selectin; iNOS; inflammation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries are important causes of premature death and permanentdisability. To improve the treatment of CNS-injured patients increased knowledge about thepathophysiological events that mediate death or dysfunction of nervous tissue is urgently needed. LÄS MER
