1. Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting : Risk factors and clinical outcome
Sammanfattning : Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and more knowledge is needed regarding prediction of POAF, the extent of early atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after discharge, and the associations between POAF and short and long-term overall and cause-specific mortality and morbidity. After CABG, 31-32% of all patients developed POAF. 2. Epidural Analgesia for Colorectal Cancer Surgery : Experimental and Clinical studies
Sammanfattning : Epidural analgesia (EA) with local anaesthetics and opioids is used for pain management after colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery. In recent years, a possible beneficial effect of EA on cancer recurrence and survival after surgery has been proposed. LÄS MER
3. Waiting time and mortality in coronary artery bypass grafting patients
Sammanfattning : Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) has emerged as one of the most common major surgical procedures worldwide. Unfortunately the capacity is still unable to meet the demand in many countries. This leads to waiting times before surgery, prioritisation between patients and ultimately to deaths among the patients on the waiting list.Aims: 1. LÄS MER
4. Acute Confusional State in Elderly Patients with Hip Fracture. Identification of risk factors and intervention using a prehospital and perioperative management program
Sammanfattning : Abstract The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about underlying causes and perioperative risk factors of Acute Confusional State (ACS) in elderly patients with hip fracture and to investigate the effect of a multi-factorial intervention program in order to decrease the number of patients who develop ACS. The aim in paper I was to describe elderly patients with hip fracture on the basis of the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ ASA classification system and to identify preoperative risk factors in relation to the postoperative outcome measured up to 4-months after surgery. 5. Tonsil Surgery - Register Studies of Complications and Outcomes
Sammanfattning : Tonsillectomy is a commonly performed surgical procedure yet the evidence of the effect in patients with recurrent/chronic throat infections is unsatisfactory. Great variations exist in the reported rates of postoperative haemorrhage and mortality. LÄS MER
