21. Connecting viral oncoproteins to microRNA, autophagy and metabolism in Merkel cell carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is an aggressive type of skin cancer. Around 80% of MCCs harbor an integrated Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) genome with a mutation in the large T antigen (LT) gene, leading to expression of truncated LT. It is evident that the viral truncated LT and small T antigen (sT) play important roles in MCC tumorigenesis. LÄS MER
22. Retargeting of adenovirus vectors. Viral ligands and cellular receptors
Sammanfattning : Gene therapy is one of the newest technologies attempted to treat human cancer. Progress in the field has however been hampered by the lack of efficient and safe vectors. Ideal vectors should specifically transduce desired cells in vivo. This thesis is devoted to the development and evaluation of retargeted adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vectors. LÄS MER
23. Semigroups, multisemigroups and representations
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers about the intersection between semigroup theory, category theory and representation theory. We say that a representation of a semigroup by a matrix semigroup is effective if it is injective and define the effective dimension of a semigroup S as the minimal n such that S has an effective representation by square matrices of size n. 24. Studies on syndecan-1 in mesenchymal tumors
Sammanfattning : The syndecans are a four-member family of type I transmembrane proteoglycans. Their core proteins have a short cytoplasmic domain, a transmembrane domain and a large N-terminal extracellular domain possessing glycosaminoglycan chains. All the protein domains and the glycosaminoglycan chains can contribute to the functions of syndecans. LÄS MER
25. Bone Morphogenetic Protein Receptors in the Nervous System: Neurotrophic Functions with Emphasis on Catecholaminergic Neurons
Sammanfattning : Members of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily exhibit a range of effects on a host of different cell types. They signal through heteromeric complexes of serine/threonine kinase receptors of type I and type II. LÄS MER
