  1. 6. Dynamics of the aphid-ant mutualism

    Författare :Karolina Tegelaar; Olof Leimar; Judith Bronstein; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mutualism; transgenerational; aphids; aphid-ant; conflict of interest; E -β-farnesene; phenotypic plasticity; predation risk; wing induction; maternal effect; reproductive investment; embryo size; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : An appreciation of the role of mutualism is essential when studying ecology and evolution in most ecosystems. Information covering aspects of mutualistic interactions can serve as a complement to the somewhat one-sided perspective from the 1950’s and 60’s that is used when teaching biology. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Maternal programming: costs, benefits and constraints of maternal hormone transfer

    Författare :Michael Tobler; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; Animal ecology; aves; immune function; behavior; Maternal effects; hormones;

    Sammanfattning : Avian mothers convey significant quantities of androgens (i.e. ?male? steroids) to their eggs, which are known to positively influence embryonic development, post-natal growth and competitive behaviour of the offspring. However, there is large inter-female variation in the amount of androgens transferred to the eggs. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Stress in chickens : Effects of domestication and early experience on behaviour and welfare

    Författare :Maria Ericsson; Per Jensen; Linda Keeling; Bjarne Braastad; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The domestication is the process where animals have adapted to human conditions. A prerequisite for domestication is tame behaviour towards humans and subsequently, selection for other desirable traits took place which led to changes in several behavioural and physiological parameters. 4. 9. How can an organism´s life experience affect their descendants? Insights from epigenetic and transgenerational effects of chemical exposure in zebrafish

    Författare :Mélanie Blanc; Steffen Keiter; Joëlle Rüegg; Xavier Cousin; Nikolai Scherbak; Michael K. Skinner; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neurotoxicity; behavior; RNA-Seq; RRBS; TEI; permethrin; PCBs; PBDEs; coumarin 47;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental pollution causes approx. 10% of human diseases, and some develop in the progeny because of parental exposure. Effects passed on to subsequent generations may be a consequence of genetic mutations, or of inherited changes in epigenetic patterns. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Zooplankton responses to multiple threats within and across generations

    Författare :Yongcui Sha; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Predation; Ultraviolet radiation; Daphnia; copepods; plasticity; maternal effects; adaptation; diel vertical migration;

    Sammanfattning : In their natural environments, organisms are unlikely to be distributed randomly but instead they are constantly faced with multiple and variable threats. In order to maximise survival, they need to be able to perceive the present threat level and respond accordingly. LÄS MER
