  1. 1. On Factors Influencing the Clinical Outcome in Orthognathic Surgery

    Författare :Fredrik Widar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Orthognathic surgery; Intermaxillary fixation; Iatrogenic root damage; Osteotomy; Sagittal split ramus; Steroid; Hypoesthesia; Inferior alveolar nerve; Risk factors; Smoking; Anaesthesia; Haemodynamic; Remifentanil; Ropivacaine; Recovery;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background. Orthognathic surgery means surgical correction of dentofacial and congenital deformities, which includes unsatisfactory facial aesthetics, malpositioned teeth, jaw moutcome osurgery. Developments within the invasive surgery and pharmacological modification of inflammatory responses. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ovarian steroids in rat and human brain : effects of different endocrine states

    Författare :Marie Bixo; Bengt Winblad; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Progesterone; 5a-pregnane-3.20-dione; estradiol; testosterone; rat brain; human brain; PMSG-model; steroid anaesthesia;

    Sammanfattning : Ovarian steroid hormones are known to produce several different effects in the brain. In addition to their role in gonadotropin release, ovulation and sexual behaviour they also seem to affect mood and emotions, as shown in women with the premenstrual tension syndrome. Some steroids have the ability to affect brain excitability. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Intravenous morphine after gynecological surgery : pain relief, endocrine and immune respone

    Författare :Marianne Eriksson-Mjöberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Anaesthesia: general; epidural. Postoperative pain: PCA; morphine; bupivacaine. Hormones: adrenocortical steroids; estrogens. Immune response: Interleukin-6.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: We need more efficient methods to alleviate postoperative pain and reduce endocrine / immune stress response. Subjects and methods: Patient controlled analgesia (PCA) with iv morphine was evaluated with respect to pain relief and endocrine / immune response to surgical trauma in 130 patients undergoing gynecological surgery. 4. 4. Tolerance and antagonism to allopregnanolone effects in the rat CNS

    Författare :Sahruh Turkmen; Inga-Maj Johansson; Agneta Nordberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Allopregnanolone; GABA-A receptor; UC1011; Spatial memory; Morris Water Maze; Tolerance; Silent second; mRNA; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many studies have suggested a relationship between sex steroids and negative mental and mood changes in women. Allopregnanolone, a potent endogenous ligand of the GABA-A receptor and a metabolite of progesterone, is one of the most accused neuroactive steroids. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Progesterone metabolites : learning, tolerance, antagonism & metabolism

    Författare :Charlotte Öfverman; Inga-Maj Johansson; Torbjörn Bäckström; Esa Korpi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allopregnanolone; isoallopregnanolone; THDOC; learning; tolerance; antagonism; inhibition; patch clamp; Morris water maze; metabolism; epimerization; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Progesterone metabolites as allopregnanolone, isoallopregnanolone and tetrahydrodeoxy-corticosterone (THDOC) are increased in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, throughout pregnancy and during stress. Allopregnanolone and THDOC are neurosteroids with 3α-hydroxy, 5α-configurations and positive modulating effect on the GABAA receptor. LÄS MER
