  1. 6. In Vivo Active Drug Uptake and Efflux at the Blood-Brain Barrier : With Focus on Drug Transport Interactions

    Författare :Muhammad Waqas Sadiq; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Sven Björkman; N. Joan Abbott; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood-brain barrier; Active uptake transport; Microdialysis; P-glycoprotein; Drug interactions; Species differences; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacodynamics; NONMEM; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier (BBB) controls the movement of substances into and out of the brain. The tight junctions between endothelial cells and energy dependent transporters in the BBB influence rate and extent of drug distribution to the brain. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Biodiversity and Species Extinctions in Model Food Webs

    Författare :Charlotte Borrvall; Bo Ebenman; Owen Petchey; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; food webs; redundancy; relaxation time; stability; stochasticity; species deletion; species extinction; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many of the earth’s ecosystems are experiencing large species losses due to human impacts such as habitat destruction and fragmentation, climate change, species invasions, pollution, and overfishing. Due to the complex interactions between species in food webs the extinction of one species could lead to a cascade of further extinctions and hence cause dramatic changes in species composition and ecosystem processes. 3. 8. Species Responses to Environmental Fluctuations : impacts of food web interactions and noise color

    Författare :Sara Gudmundson; Uno Wennergren; Anna Eklöf; Sebastian Diehl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Species constantly experience changes in their environmental conditions owing to natural or human induces reasons. Understanding how species respond to these fluctuations are important for ecology, especially given the ongoing climate change. Empirical studies have shown that species respond differently to the same disturbance. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Adenovirus-host interactions : implications for tropism and therapy

    Författare :Annasara Lenman; Niklas Arnberg; Lennart Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adenoviridae; Amino Acids; Antiviral Agents; Epithelial Cells; Factor IX;

    Sammanfattning : Human adenoviruses (HAdVs) are common viruses often associated withgastrointestinal, ocular and respiratory infections. They can infect a widevariety of cells, both dividing and non-dividing. HAdVs attach to and infecttarget cells through interactions with cellular receptors. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Bird-parasite interactions : Using Sindbis virus as a model system

    Författare :Karin M. Lindström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Carduelis chloris; Sindbis virus; host-parasite interaction; ornament; social dominance; testosterone; sexual selection; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the evolutionary interactions between birds and a parasite, the mosquito-borne Sindbis virus (Togaviridae, Alphavirus). In conclusion, the results show that the Sindbis virus is widespread among birds, and that the fitness of infected hosts may be reduced by the virus. LÄS MER
