16. Bearing the brunt of warming: Interactions between carbon and hydrology in northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Climate modelling studies indicate that subarctic ecosystems are predicted to show some of the earliest responses to climate change. The predicted temperature and precipitation changes have implications for the carbon biogeochemical cycle with ancillary effects in permafrost soils, vegetation, and stream networks. LÄS MER
17. Space-Time Prediction of Ocean Winds
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is inspired by an experiment in which a vessel, laying a submarine cable, was provided with forecasts overlaid with satellite observations of significant wave height. During the operation, the vessel was close to an adverse weather area and the personnel on board could confirm that the forecast was not as close to the "ground truth" as the satellite observation was. 18. On mechanisms controlling air-sea gas exchange
Sammanfattning : Carbon is essential to the Earth’s system functioning, playing a major role in physical and biogeochemical processes in the atmosphere, the terrestrial biosphere, and the oceans. The concentration of carbon-based greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), has been increasing since the industrial era. LÄS MER
19. Recent changes in land use and productivity in agro-pastoral Inner Mongolia, China
Sammanfattning : This study challenges the prevailing assumption that the expansion of cultivated land areas and increasing number of livestock in the agro-pastoral regions of northern China have aggravated the process of land degradation since the start of the rural reforms in 1978. Land-use and productivity trends in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR), with special attention to the Keerqin steppe region, have been analysed. LÄS MER
20. Data-Driven Techniques for Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer
Sammanfattning : One of the main challenges in fluid mechanics and heat transfer is the need for detailed studies andfast computational speed to monitor and optimise a system. These fluid/heat flows comprise time-dependent velocity, multi-scale, pressure, and energy fluctuations. LÄS MER
