  1. 21. Extreme Value Analysis of Huge Datasets: Tail Estimation Methods in High-Throughput Screening and Bioinformatics

    Författare :Dmitrii Zholud; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extreme Value Statistics; High-Throughput Screening; HTS; Bioinformatics; analysis of huge datasets; quality control; correction of theoretical p-values; comparison of pre-processing methods; SmartTail; estimation of False Discovery Rates; test power; distribution tail; high level excursions; quantile estimation; multiple testing; Student t−test; Welch statistic; small sample sizes; F−test; Wiener process; Gaussian random walk; Shepp statistic; limit theorems; exotic options.; estimation of False Discovery Rates;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results in Extreme Value Theory with applications to High-Throughput Screening and Bioinformatics. The methods described here, however, are applicable to statistical analysis of huge datasets in general. The main results are covered in four papers. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Magnetic properties of transition metal compounds and superlattices

    Författare :Arvid Broddefalk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Magnetic order; magnetocrystalline anisotropy; interlayer exchange coupling; transition metal compounds; superlattices; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Magnetic properties of selected compounds and superlattices have been experimentally studied using SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) and VSM (vibrating sample magnetometer) magnetometry, neutron diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements combined with theoretical ab initio calculations. The magnetic compounds (Fe1-xMx)3P, M=Co or Mn have been studied extensively. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Optical properties of some complex defects in silicon

    Författare :Johan Svensson; G. D Watkins; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : lnfrared absorption spectroscopy has been used study transitions between electronic states related to some complex defects in silicon. Three different defects have been studied: a complex defect involving carbon as one of its constituents, a divacancy, and a defect found in silicon containing tin. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Influence of Water on Coarse Granular Road Material Properties

    Författare :Jonas Ekblad; Ulf Isacsson; Hervé Di Benedetto; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Highway Engineering; Granulat materials; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Sammanfattning : Even though the practical experience of using coarse unbound granular materials is extensive, detailed knowledge on the mechanical and hydraulic behavior is to a large extent lacking. Regarding influence of water on mechanical properties, this is even more pronounced. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Microscale Tools for Sample Preparation, Separation and Detection of Neuropeptides

    Författare :Andreas Dahlin; Jonas Bergquist; Karin E. Markides; Robert T. Kennedy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Neuropeptides; Microchip; Enhanced microdialysis; Poly dimethylsiloxane PDMS ; Electrospray ionization ESI ; Multidimensional separation; Electrochemical manipulation; Mass spectrometry MS ; Capillary electrophoresis CE ; Microdevice; Microfabrication; Micro total analysis system μ-TAS ; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The analysis of low abundant biological molecules is often challenging due to their chemical properties, low concentration and limited sample volumes. Neuropeptides are one group of molecules that fits these criteria. Neuropeptides also play an important role in biological functions, which makes them extra interesting to analyze. LÄS MER
