  1. 1. Extreme Value Analysis of Huge Datasets: Tail Estimation Methods in High-Throughput Screening and Bioinformatics

    Författare :Dmitrii Zholud; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extreme Value Statistics; High-Throughput Screening; HTS; Bioinformatics; analysis of huge datasets; quality control; correction of theoretical p-values; comparison of pre-processing methods; SmartTail; estimation of False Discovery Rates; test power; distribution tail; high level excursions; quantile estimation; multiple testing; Student t−test; Welch statistic; small sample sizes; F−test; Wiener process; Gaussian random walk; Shepp statistic; limit theorems; exotic options.; estimation of False Discovery Rates;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results in Extreme Value Theory with applications to High-Throughput Screening and Bioinformatics. The methods described here, however, are applicable to statistical analysis of huge datasets in general. The main results are covered in four papers. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Lipoproteins in the postprandial state: Studies on the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins using multicompartmental models

    Författare :Elias Björnson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lipoprotein metabolism; Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease;

    Sammanfattning : Lipoproteins are lipid-containing spherical particles that circulate in the human blood stream. The reason for their intense study over the decades is their ability to cause atherosclerosis1. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on Tropical Palaeo-variation in Climate and Cosmic Ray Influx : Geochemical data from stalagmites collected in Tanzania and northern South Africa

    Författare :Katarina Lundblad; Karin Holmgren; Augusto Mangini; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeoclimatology; cosmic ray influx; stalagmites; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The main aims of this project were to contribute to the knowledge about tropical climate variations, and to investigate the possibilities of obtaining cosmic ray influx data from stalagmites.Stalagmites from Tanzania and northern South Africa were palaeoclimatologically analysed. 4. 4. Tailoring the course of postprandial glycaemia to bread : On the importance of viscous dietary fibre for acute and semi-acute glucose tolerance and appetite

    Författare :Linda Ekström; Kemicentrum Centrum för preventiv livsmedelsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Postprandial glycaemia; appetite; prevention; antidiabetic food; inflammation; GI; glycaemic profile;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is rapidly increasing all over the world. Frequent episodes of elevated postprandial blood glucose have been associated with oxidative stress and subclinical inflammation, and the importance of a tight glycaemic control has been identified as an important factor to maintain health and prevent T2DM, obesity and cardiovascular disease (CVD). 5. 5. Insulinogenic Effects of Milk- and Other Dietary Proteins, Mechanisms and metabolic implications

    Författare :Mikael Nilsson; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Näringslära; Nutrition; Type 2 diabetes; Isolated islets; Incretin hormones; Food proteins; Amino acids; Insulin index; Glycaemic index; Hyperinsulinaemia; Insulin; Blood glucose; Milk; Whey;

    Sammanfattning : The metabolic syndrome (type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, dyslipidaemia, and hyperinsulinaemia), is increasing in prevalence world-wide. The progression of this syndrome proceeds through a step-wise deterioration of metabolic events where deterioration of insulin sensitivity appears to have a key role in a ?vicious circle? of hyperinsulinaemia/hyperglycaemia and insulin resistance.
