1. Augmenting the Remote Control : Studies in Complex Information Navigation for Digital TV
Sammanfattning : The transition to digital TV is changing the television set into an entertainment as well as information supplier device that provides two-way communication with the viewer. However, the present remote control device is not appropriate for navigation through the huge amount of services and information provided by the future digital TV, presumably also a device for accessing the Internet. 2. Resource-aware Wireless Process Control
Sammanfattning : To tackle the ever-growing demands on high-quality and cost-effective industrial production, recent developments in embedded sensing, wireless communication, and cloud computing offer great opportunities. Resource-aware reliable wireless communication and real-time control are needed to leverage these technologies. LÄS MER
3. On LQG-Optimal Event-Based Sampling
Sammanfattning : Event-based control is a promising concept for the design of resource-efficient feedback systems, where events such as sampling, actuation, and data transmissions are triggered reactively based on monitored control performance rather than a periodic timer. In this thesis, we investigate how sampling and communication events should be triggered to fully exploit the potential of event-based control based on the classic linear–quadratic–Gaussian (LQG) framework. 4. Control over the Cloud : Offloading, Elastic Computing, and Predictive Control
Sammanfattning : The thesis studies the use of cloud native software and platforms to implement critical closed loop control. It considers technologies that provide low latency and reliable wireless communication, in terms of edge clouds and massive MIMO, but also approaches industrial IoT and the services of a distributed cloud, as an extension of commercial-of-the-shelf software and systems. 5. Control and Communication with Signal-to-Noise Ratio Constraints
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about two problems in the intersection of communication and control theory. Their common feature is that they involve communication over an additive white noise channel with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) constraint. The first problem concerns the transmission of a real-valued signal from a partially observed Markov source. LÄS MER
