16. Folding of the Ribosomal protein S6 : The role of sequence connectivity, overlapping foldons, and parallel pathways
Sammanfattning : To investigate how protein folding is affected by sequence connectivity five topological variants of the ribosomal protein S6 were constructed through circular permutation. In these constructs, the chain connectivity (i.e. the order of secondary-structure elements) is changed without changing the native-state topology. LÄS MER
17. Unlocking protein sequences : Advances in protein structure and ligand-binding site prediction
Sammanfattning : The protein sequence determines how it will fold into its unique three-dimensional structure. Once folded, proteins perform their functions by interacting with other proteins or molecules called ligands within the cell. Experimental determination of protein structure and function is tedious. 18. Human Aquaporins: Production, Characterization and Interactions
Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins are essential components of the cell and responsible for the communication with the outside environment and transport of molecules across the membrane. Water transport is facilitated by aquaporins, which are water selective transmembrane pores that serve to maintain cell homeostasis. LÄS MER
19. Structural and thermodynamical basis for molecular recognition between engineered binding proteins
Sammanfattning : The structural determination of interacting proteins, both as individual proteins and in their complex, complemented by thermodynamical studies are vital in order to gain in-depth insights of the phenomena leading to the highly selective protein-protein interactions characteristic of numerous life processes. This thesis describes an investigation of the structural and thermodynamical basis for molecular recognition in two different protein-protein complexes, formed between so-called affibody proteins and their respective targets. 20. Protein-Protein Interactions Affecting Protein-Surface Interactions
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is the behaviour of proteins towards surfaces in the presence of other protein species. General protein-protein interactions of some plasma proteins are investigated in the first four papers. The proteins, immunoglobulin G, albumin, and fibrinogen, are analysed in solutions of single proteins as well as controlled mixtures. LÄS MER
