  1. 1. Effects of electrical accidents : occupational and health perspectives

    Författare :Lisa Rådman; Magnus Thordstein; Håkan Olausson; Kerstin Norman; Finn Nilson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electrical accident; Neurosensory symptoms; No-let-go phenomenon; Pain; Voltage; Quantitative sensory testing;

    Sammanfattning : Professionals working in the electrical industry are at risk of accidental injuries caused by electricity. Electrical accidents can cause persistent neurological symptoms, previously mainly described in patients whose injuries were initially extensive. LÄS MER

  2. 2. MuSK Antibody(+) Versus AChR Antibody(+) Myasthenia Gravis : Clinical, Neurophysiological and Morphological Aspects

    Författare :Anna Rostedt Punga; Erik Stålberg; Hannu Kalimo; John Newsom-Davis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurosciences; myasthenia gravis; MuSK antibody; AChR antibody; myopathy; single-fiber EMG; mitochondria; Swedish MG questionnaire; quality of life; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that causes fluctuating muscle weakness. MG may be divided into an ocular form and a generalized form based on the involved muscles. Treatment differs between these different MG forms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Office work and physical factors : health aspects of electromagnetic fields and light

    Författare :Monica Sandström; Kjell Hansson Mild; Gunnar Nordberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Facial skin symptoms; office illness; electrical hypersensitivity; physical environment; flicker; jitter; neurophysiological effects;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of the physical environment of office workers with special focus on electromagnetic fields and to address the question of whether electromagnetic fields can directly or indirectly contribute to symptoms or discomfort among video display terminal ( VDT) workers. Furthermore, we have measured light modulation from various commonly used light sources in laboratory conditions and, as a second step, used modulated light as stimulus for provocation of neurophysiological responses in persons with perceived “electrical hypersensitivity” (EHS). 4. 4. Systemic effects of occupational exposure to arsenic : with special reference to peripheral circulation and nerve function

    Författare :Birgitta Json Lagerkvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arsenic toxicity; Cold-induced vasospasm; Finger systolic pressure; Nerve conduction velocity; Occupational exposure; Raynaud s phenomenon; Serotonin antagonist;

    Sammanfattning : Smelter workers who were exposed to air-borne arsenic for a mean of 23 years, and age-matched referents, were examined with clinical, physiological, and neurophysiological methods. Exposure to arsenic in workroom air was estimated to have been around the Swedish occupational limits, which were 500 yg/m before 1975 and 50 yg/ra thereafter. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Development of breastfeeding behavior in preterm infants : Behavioral and neurophysiological evidence of early competence

    Författare :Kerstin Hedberg Nyqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Behavior; breastfeeding; development; electromyography; infant; mother; newborn; nurse; observation; oral; preterm; reliability; sucking; validity; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis were to develop a method for observation of maturational steps in preterm infants' breastfeeding behavior, test the reliability and validity of this method, describe this development and explore effects of certain infant and maternal factors on infant breastfeeding behavior. The Preterm Infant Breastfeeding Behavior Scale (PIBBS) was developed. LÄS MER
