  1. 31. The regulation of renal tubular Na+ transport is dependent on interaction between different hormones

    Författare :Yoshiyuki Ohtomo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Norepinephrine; oc-adrenergic; beta-adrenergic; neuropeptide Y; Na ; K -ATPase activity; C-peptide; ontogeny;

    Sammanfattning : Renal Na+,K+-ATPase (NKA) is of great importance for the regulation of salt metabolism and its activity can be inhibited by several natriuretic hormones. So far, the effect of antinatriuretic factors have been less well studied. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Molecular mechanisms of amyloid self-regulation

    Författare :Michael Landreh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Amyloid is associated with both pathological protein deposits and the formation of functional protein structures. Therefore, several strategies have evolved to control the formation or inhibition of amyloid in vivo. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Intracellular and peptide interactions of C-peptide

    Författare :Emma Lindahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Proinsulin C-peptide is depleted together with insulin in type I diabetic patients. The supplement of insulin to these patients is necessary for their survival, but it is also likely that the loss of C-peptide may contribute to both short- and long-term complications. In this thesis, molecular effects of C-peptide have been investigated. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Structural and neurohormonal factors in left ventricular hypertrophy and inhibition of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system

    Författare :Karin Malmqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Left ventricular hypertrophy; RAAS; insulin; sympathetic nervous system; leptin echocardiography; soluble cell adhesion molecules; AT1-recemor blockade; ACE inhibitor; QT dispersion;

    Sammanfattning : Hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a major risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to study how different neurohormonal systems relate to left ventricular mass, and to study structural and functional cardiovascular changes in hypertensive LVH. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Renal effects of C-peptide in experimental type-1 diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Björn Samnegård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Diabetic nephropathy; C-peptide; captopril; albuminuria; glomerular hyperfiltration; glomerular hypertrophy; glomerular mesangium expansion; type-IV collagen; RAGE; renal blood flow;

    Sammanfattning : The incidence and prevalence of diabetic nephropathy are increasing continuously, mainly due to the increase in type-2 diabetes. In contrast, the risk of diabetic nephropathy for the individual patient has decreased considerably in recent decades due to improved glycemic control, successful treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia and the use of renin angiotensin system inhibitors, which have protective effects beyond those on blood pressure.
