  1. 1. Renal effects of C-peptide in experimental type-1 diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Björn Samnegård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Diabetic nephropathy; C-peptide; captopril; albuminuria; glomerular hyperfiltration; glomerular hypertrophy; glomerular mesangium expansion; type-IV collagen; RAGE; renal blood flow;

    Sammanfattning : The incidence and prevalence of diabetic nephropathy are increasing continuously, mainly due to the increase in type-2 diabetes. In contrast, the risk of diabetic nephropathy for the individual patient has decreased considerably in recent decades due to improved glycemic control, successful treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia and the use of renin angiotensin system inhibitors, which have protective effects beyond those on blood pressure. 2. 2. Nephrotic syndrome in children : functional, morphological and therapeutical aspects

    Författare :Eva Löwenborg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Children; glomerular volume; glomerular filtration rate; effective renal plasma flow; rats; nephrotic syndrome; cyclosporine; nephrotoxicity;

    Sammanfattning : Although cure rates of the idiopathic nephrotic syndrome in children have improved because of advances in immunosuppressive therapy, the pathogenesis and course of the disease remain controversial. We have followed children with nephrotic syndrome to study renal function and morphological changes in kidney biopsies and in an experimental study. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology in Central America and Sri Lanka : renal morphology and clinical characteristics

    Författare :Julia Wijkström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health problem. The most common etiologies of CKD are diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and glomerulonephritis, but over the last several decades a high prevalence of CKD of unknown etiology (CKDu) has been reported from rural communities in some tropical countries, including Central America, and Sri Lanka. 4. 4. Oxygen Metabolism in Experimental Kidney Disease

    Författare :Ebba Sivertsson; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Jenny Nyström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney; kidney oxygenation; mitochondria; proteinuria; uncoupling protein; adenosine nucleotide transporter; diabetes; hyperthyroidism; thyroid hormone; hypertension; angiotensin II; CDK; AST-120; rats; mice; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Tubulointerstitial hypoxia has been proposed a unifying mechanism behind the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD), regardless of primary diagnosis. Important factors that contribute to the development of hypoxia are reduced bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO), oxidative stress and mitochondria uncoupling. LÄS MER
