21. Large-Scale Land Acquisitions as a Driver of Socio-Environmental Change : From the Pixel to the Globe
Sammanfattning : A major challenge of our time is to sustainably produce food and other goods for a growing global population, without putting additional pressures on land and water resources and local people’s quality of life. Large-scale agriculture has brought many benefits to humanity in terms of food production but has also caused multiple sustainability challenges, including land and water degradation, deforestation, and biodiversity loss in areas of production. 22. Tracking Chambers with Two-Dimensional Readout used for Extraction of Particle Production Ratios in High Multiplicity Pb+Pb Collisions at 158 A GeV
Sammanfattning : Heavy-ion collisions at high energies calls for new technical solutions to cope with the very high multiplicities of produced particles. In this thesis the design and development of two types of tracking chambers for high multiplicity environments are presented. LÄS MER
23. Development of MALDI Mass Spectrometry Imaging Methods for Probing Spatial Lipid Biochemistry of Amyloid Plaques in Alzheimer's Disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most prevalent cause of neurodegenerative dementia. Aggregation of amyloid β (Aβ) peptides into extracellular Aβ plaques is one of the major neuropathological features of AD. LÄS MER
24. Design and characterization of 64K pixels chips working in single photon processing mode
Sammanfattning : Progress in CMOS technology and in fine pitch bump bonding has made possible the development of high granularity single photon counting detectors for X-ray imaging. This thesis studies the design and characterization of three pulse processing chips with 65536 square pixels of 55 μm x 55 μm designed in a commercial 0. LÄS MER
25. Architecture and circuit design of photon counting readout for X-ray imaging sensors
Sammanfattning : Hybrid pixel array detectors for X-ray imaging are based on different technologies for sensor and readout electronics. The readout electronics are based on standard CMOS technologies that are experiencing continuously rapid improvements by means of down-scaling the feature sizes, which in turn lead to higher transistor densities, lower power consumption, and faster circuits.
