1. Targeting polo-like kinase 1 in pediatric leukemia
Sammanfattning : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is one of the most common cancers among children in the world, with almost 90% complete remission rate after the primary treatment. However, some patients are resistant to treatment and some relapse later. Moreover, existing treatments are toxic and induce life-long adverse effects. LÄS MER
2. Product-service systems: Panacea or myth?
Sammanfattning : Life cycle environmental problems have been addressed by a number of strategies. However, the results are mostly lamentable because solutions are searched for within the same paradigms that give rise to the problems. LÄS MER
3. Science-policy interaction in the governance of complex socio-ecological risks : The case of chemicals management in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I examine knowledge production and science-policy interaction associated with the management of chemical substances in the Baltic Sea under conditions of uncertainty and complexity. The thesis is primarily based on a qualitative analysis of policy documents and reports produced by the European Union (EU), the Helsinki Commission, the Swedish Chemicals Agency, and Gothenburg municipality, as well as 30 semi-structured interviews with scientific experts, policy makers, and government officials with knowledge and working experience in the relevant policy arenas. 4. Cryogels Based on Crosslinked Cells as Green Biocatalysts for Biotechnology
Sammanfattning : Abstract Due to the finite nature of fossil resources and their environmental impact, such as greenhouse gases and climate change, the bio-based production of chemicals, materials and fuels is the subject of extensive research in industrial biotechnology. Biotransformation and fermentation are considered to be mild, “green” processes that make use of effective and reliable biocatalysts to provide bio-based chemicals. LÄS MER
5. Structure and Dynamics of Core-Excited Species
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have performed core-electron spectroscopy studies of gas phase molecular systems starting with smaller diatomic, continuing with triatomic and extending our research to more complex polyatomic ones. We can subdivide the results presented here into two categories: the first one focusing on electronic fine structure and effect of the chemical bonds on molecular core-levels and the other one dealing with nuclear dynamics induced by creation of a core hole.
