1. Analysis and engineering of central metabolism in Clostridium thermocellum
Sammanfattning : To mitigate climate change, greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced to net-zero in 2050 requiring a drastic transition in today´s energy sector. To achieve this goal, the use of biofuels produced from lignocellulosic feedstocks, including agricultural and forestry residues, is expected to play an important role. LÄS MER
2. Macromolecular interactions, Consequences on carbohydrate metabolism
Sammanfattning : Most cells are crowded with solutes, enzymes, nucleic acids, structural proteins and membranes. Crowding promotes macromolecular interactions and determines major properties of the cellular environment such as viscosity, diffusion and inhomogeneity. LÄS MER
3. A phenotypic study of a unique respiratory strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and its application in protein production
Sammanfattning : During aerobic growth at high glucose concentrations, the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae prefers to catabolise glucose through fermentation rather than through respiration. Previously fully respiratory growth could only be achieved when a low external glucose concentration was maintained, in fed-batch and continuous cultures, but since the development of the respiratory strain, TM6*, in our laboratory this can now be achieved even at high external glucose concentration. 4. Glycolytic oscillations in individual yeast cells
Sammanfattning : Oscillations in the concentration of yeast glycolytic intermediates have been intensively studied since the 1950s, but these studies have so far been limited to observations of average oscillatory behavior in synchronized cultures. Hence, it has remained unknown whether the onset of oscillations is a collective property of the population which requires a high cell density, or if individual cells can oscillate also in isolation. 5. Effects of unloading on skeletal muscle mass and function in man
Sammanfattning : An experimental human model of skeletal muscle unloading of one lower limb and confined bedrest were employed to quantitate the adaptive responses to 10 days, 4 or 6 wk of unloading in healthy humans on quadricep skeletal muscle mass and function. Muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) was assessed using tomographic imaging (CT, MRI). LÄS MER
