  1. 1. Conformational studies of carbohydrates: MD simulation and NMR spectroscopy

    Författare :Robert Pendrill; Lena Mäler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes various aspects of conformational studies of carbohydrates, from development of the methods by which experimental parameters are gathered to the application of NMR spectroscopy and MD simulation for the analysis of a disaccharide. Paper I describes the use of site-specific 13C labeling as a tool to resolve spectral overlap of 1H frequencies in a trisaccharide, allowing the measurement of important crossrelaxation rates and long-range couplings which were previously obscured. 2. 2. Felling Forests from Afar: Quantifying Deforestation Driven by Agricultural Expansion and International Trade

    Författare :Florence Pendrill; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forest transitions; Land cover; Carbon footprints; Agriculture; Forestry; Carbon emissions; Land use; International trade; Deforestation;

    Sammanfattning : Deforestation is a major source of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions and the largest threat to terrestrial biodiversity. Most forest loss is due to the expansion of agricultural land use increasingly driven by international demand for food, fuel and fibre. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Where have all the forests gone? Quantifying pantropical deforestation drivers

    Författare :Florence Pendrill; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon footprints; International trade; Deforestation; Consumption-based accounting; Forest transitions; Telecoupling; Agriculture; Land use change; Carbon emissions; Land system science;

    Sammanfattning : Deforestation across the tropics continues to be a major source of greenhouse gas emissions and the largest threat to biodiversity on land. With strengthened commitments to reduce deforestation from countries and companies alike, it is crucial that renewed investments for reducing deforestation be guided by a sound understanding of what drives deforestation. 4. 4. Conformations of Flexible Oligosaccharides : Molecular Simulations and NMR spectroscopy

    Författare :Robert Pendrill; Göran Widmalm; Jens Duus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbohydrates; Oligosaccharide; Conformation; NMR spectroscopy; MD simulations; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The conformational preferences of several oligosaccharides are investigated herein using a combination of NMR spectroscopy and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, focusing on the torsion angles associated with the glycosidic linkages.Strategies for obtaining usable J-HMBC spectra for carbons with an adjacent 13C label are described. 5. 5. Fabry-Pérot based refractometry : development of a transportable refractometer for assessment of gas pressure

    Författare :Clayton Forssén; Ove Axner; Isak Silander; Martin Zelan; Leslie Pendrill; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fabry-pérot; refractometry; optical resonator; transportable; pressure standard; gamor; pressure; metrology; ring comparison; si; pascal; quantumpascal; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : A unified description of physical phenomena through measurement science is one of the foundational pillars in a global society. The International System of Units (SI) is the most widely used system of units and since its redefinition in 2019, all units encompassed by it are based on fundamental physical constants. LÄS MER
