11. A search for leptoquarks with the ATLAS detector and hardware tracking at the High-Luminosity LHC
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a search for pair-production of scalar leptoquarks, decaying into third-generation particles, using proton-proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and recorded by the ATLAS detector. It also presents the development of a hardware track trigger for the Phase-II upgrade of the ATLAS experiment. LÄS MER
12. Bridging Single-Particle Characterisation Gaps of Optical Microscopy in the Nano-Submicron Regime
Sammanfattning : As the practical importance of particles in the nano-submicron size regime continues to increase in both biomedical applications and industrial processes, so does the need for accurate and versatile characterisation methods. Optical scattering microscopy methods are commonly used for single-particle characterisation as they provide quick measurements at physiologically relevant conditions with detection limits reaching down to individual biomolecules. 13. Biological Insights from Single-Particle Tracking in Living Cells
Sammanfattning : Single-particle tracking is a technique that allows for quantitative analysis of the localization and movement of particles. In this technique, trajectories are constructed by determining and connecting the positions of individual particles from consecutive images. LÄS MER
14. Stress, Flow and Particle Transport in Rock Fractures
Sammanfattning : The fluid flow and tracer transport in a single rock fracture during shear processes has been an important issue in rock mechanics and is investigated in this thesis using Finite Element Method (FEM) and streamline particle tracking method, considering evolutions of aperture and transmissivity with shear displacement histories under different normal stresses, based on laboratory tests. The distributions of fracture aperture and its evolution during shear were calculated from the initial aperture fields, based on the laser-scanned surface roughness features of replicas of rock fracture specimens, and shear dilations measured during the coupled shear-flow-tracer tests in laboratory performed using a newly developed testing apparatus in Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan. 15. Recursive Bayesian Estimation : Navigation and Tracking Applications
Sammanfattning : Recursive estimation deals with the problem of extracting information about parameters, or states, of a dynamical system in real time, given noisy measurements of the system output. Recursive estimation plays a central role in many applications of signal processing, system identification and automatic control. LÄS MER
