  1. 1. Pair production of Higgs bosons in the final state with bottom quarks and τ leptons in the ATLAS experiment : Search results using LHC Run 2 data and prospect studies at the HL-LHC

    Författare :Petar Bokan; Arnaud Ferrari; Stan Lai; Richard Brenner; Markus Klute; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Higgs boson pair production; ATLAS; LHC; HL-LHC; particle physics; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Sammanfattning : After the discovery of the Higgs boson, the ultimate test of the electroweak symmetry breaking and the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics is to establish evidence of Higgs boson self-coupling, which can be achieved by searching for pair production of Higgs bosons. In addition, many theories beyond the SM predict heavy resonances that could decay into pairs of Higgs bosons. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Exotic Decays of Vector-Like Quarks and Development of a Test Procedure for the ITk Strip Module at the ATLAS Detector for the HL-LHC

    Författare :Thomas Mathisen; Elin Bergeås Kuutmann; Venugopal Ellajosyula; Richard Brenner; Freya Blekman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Standard Model; BSM; Composite Higgs; Fine-tuning; Naturalness; Vector-Like Quarks; HL-LHC; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The naturalness problem of the Standard Model (SM) challenges our understanding of the origin of mass. Several theories have been proposed to tackle the problem, one of them is the Composite Higgs Model (CHM) where the Higgs boson of the SM is not an elementary scalar but instead a composite object bound at a confinement scale of a TeV. 3. 3. Instrumentation for silicon tracking at the HL-LHC

    Författare :Rebecca Carney; Samuel Silverstein; Sara Strandberg; Thomas Schön; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instrumentation; physics; particle physics; atlas; radiation damage; neuromorphic; kalman filter; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In 2027 the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will enter a high luminosity phase, deliver- ing 3000 fb 1 over the course of ten years. The High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) will increase the instantaneous luminosity delivered by a factor of 5 compared to the current operation pe- riod. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Development of the read-out link and control board for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter Upgrade

    Författare :Eduardo Valdés Santurio; Samuel Bryant Silverstein; Costas Foudas; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The Phase-II upgrade plan for the ATLAS Hadronic Tile Calorimeter facing the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era includes approximately 1000 radiation tolerant read-out link and control boards (Daughterboards) that will provide full-granularity digital data to a fully-digital trigger system off-detector through multi-Gbps optic fibres. Different Daughterboard (DB) revisions have been developed, each successively aiming to meet the demanding HL-LHC requirements. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A search for leptoquarks with the ATLAS detector and hardware tracking at the High-Luminosity LHC

    Författare :Mikael Mårtensson; Richard Brenner; Anders Ryd; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Leptoquarks; Hough transform; LHC; ATLAS; HL-LHC; Particle physics; Particle tracking; Cluster finding; Trigger; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a search for pair-production of scalar leptoquarks, decaying into third-generation particles, using proton-proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and recorded by the ATLAS detector. It also presents the development of a hardware track trigger for the Phase-II upgrade of the ATLAS experiment. LÄS MER
