  1. 1. Non-Spherical Particle Interaction in Duct and Jet Flow

    Författare :Ammar Hazim; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Solid-gas flow; turbulence modulation; duct flow; coaxial jets flow; swirl jet flow; active flow control; synthetics jet; biomass powder; non-spherical particles; PIV measurement; Engineering mechanics - Fluid mechanics; Teknisk mekanik - Strömningsmekanik; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Wood waste is the most popular biomass recourse for many nations. Burned wood can, direct or indirect, release one of the greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide. The process can still be seen as a renewable source of energy since replanting of the trees and crops are consuming nearly the same amount of carbon dioxide through photosynthesis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Turbulence measurements in fiber suspension flows : experimental methods and results

    Författare :Monika Carina Fällman; Fritz Bark; Daniel Söderberg; Fredrik Lundell; Thomas Wikström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fluid; flow; turbulent; turbulence; paper; pulp; fiber; fibre; suspension; two-phase; experimental; conductivity; micro-probes; passive scalar; ultrasonic; Doppler shift; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Turbulent mixing is present in many pulp and paper processes. It is a particularly important factor in the design and improvements of the paper machine headbox, influencing the final paper structure. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Simulation of individual cells in flow

    Författare :Lailai Zhu; Luca Brandt; Michael Graham; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrodynamic interaction; swimming microorganisms; capsule; Stokes flow; finite element method; boundary integral method; general geometry Ewald method; spectral element method; viscoelastic fluid; cellular deformation; flow cytometry; cell sorting; microrheology; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows. 4. 4. Stability of plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow

    Författare :Per-Olov Åsén; Gunilla Kreiss; Jonathan Goodman; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrodynamic stability; plane Couette flow; pipe Poiseuille flow; direct numerical simulations; resolvent; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the stability of plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow in three space dimensions. The mathematical model for both flows is the incompressible Navier--Stokes equations. Both analytical and numerical techniques are used. We present new results for the resolvent corresponding to both flows. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Near wall fibre orientation in flowing suspensions

    Författare :Allan Carlsson; Daniel Söderberg; Fredrik Lundell; Helge I. Andersson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fluid mechanics; fibre orientation; shear flow; wall effect; fibre suspension; papermaking; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with fibre orientation in wall-bounded shear flows. The primary application in mind is papermaking. The study is mainly experimental,but is complemented with theoretical considerations.The main part of the thesis concerns the orientation of slowly settlingfibres in a wall-bounded viscous shear flow.
