  1. 1. On the role of the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor gene in hematopoietic differentiation

    Författare :Gösta Bergh; Helsingborg Kliniska Vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antisense; leukemia; cell cycle; differentiation; hematopoiesis; p16; p53; tumor suppressor genes; RB; oligonucleotides; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate the role of some tumor suppressor gene products (with emphasis on the retinoblastoma suppressor gene product) in the regulation of differentiation and proliferation in leukemic and normal hematopoietic cells. For this purpose, the expression of the tumor suppressor genes RB, p53 and p16 were artificially altered. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mapping viruses in non-malignant tonsils, nasal polyps, sinonasal inverted papilloma and laryngeal cancer

    Författare :Alexandra Schindele; Katarina Olofsson; Karin Nylander; Annika Allard; Lalle Hammarstedt Nordenvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human papilloma virus; Epstein-Barr virus; Human cytomegalovirus; Human adenovirus; p16 tumor suppressor protein; Non-malignant tonsillar disease; Chronic rhino sinusitis with nasal polyps; sinonasal inverted papilloma; laryngeal cancer; EBER-ISH; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The upper respiratory tract is exposed to viruses, which can lead to infection and cancer development. We chose to study common and/or chronic diseases along with common and cancer related viruses in the upper airway. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The cell cycle regulators p15, p16, p18 and p19 : functions and regulation during normal cell cycle and in multistep carcinogenesis

    Författare :Minna Thullberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The tumor suppressor protein p16INK4a and its family members p15INK4b, p18INK4c and p19INK4d (the INK4 proteins) inhibit the cyclin-dependent kinases CDK4 and CDK6, which are key regulators of the retinoblastoma protein (pRb). pRb guars entry into the S phase of the mammalian cell division cycle (the cell cycle), a process evolved to ensure balanced cell proliferation. 4. 4. HPV and potential prognostic markers in primary vaginal carcinoma

    Författare :Cecilia Ranhem; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this PhD thesis is to evaluate HPV status and immunohistochemical expression of different biomarkers, including tumor suppressor p16, proliferation marker Ki67, molecular markers in the LRIG family, WRAP53ß, and dyskerin as well as immune markers CD4+ and CD8+ TILs, and their correlation to clinical manifestations and survival as part of a search for potential prognostic factors in women diagnosed with primary vaginal cancer. Paper I evaluates the presence of HPV in vaginal cancer tumor samples, as well as immunohistochemical expression of p16 and Ki-67. LÄS MER

  5. 5. p16INK4A and p15INK4B in senescence, immortalization and cancer : gene transfer by adenovirus vectors

    Författare :Jonas Fuxe; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The astrocytic gliomas are the most common form of brain tumors in humans. The malignant progression from low grade (astrocytoma, grade II) to high-grade (glioblastoma multiforme, grade, IV) astrocytomas is well documented and is accompanied by an increasing number of genetic aberrations.
