1. Excursions Along the Drip Line
Sammanfattning : The drip lines are the outer boundaries of the chart of the nuclides, terminating the isobaric chains on both sides of the valley of .beta.-stability with respect to stability against particle emission. The neutron drip line is, at the moment, only experimentally accessible for the very lightest elements. LÄS MER
2. Probing the Drip-Lines through Momentum Distributions
Sammanfattning : About a decade ago it was found that nuclei in the vicinity of the neutron drip-line under certain circumstances develop very extended valence neutron distributions, a phenomenon today known as halo states. The recent development of radioactive nuclear beams has provided us with a perfect tool for investigating these particular nuclei. LÄS MER
3. Across the drip-line and back: examining 16B
Sammanfattning : Until today, after about one century of research, the atomic nucleus, a basic building block of nature, is still a fascinating puzzle. The field of nuclear physics strives for a better understanding employing both experimental and theoretical efforts. LÄS MER
4. Neutron Halo Nuclei
Sammanfattning : In light nuclei close to the neutron drip-line a spatially extended neutron distribution, the neutron, halo occurs. This is due to the relatively small binding energy of the last neutrons which makes possible quantum mechanical tunnelling of the last neutron(s) far away from the nuclear core. LÄS MER
5. In-Beam Spectroscopy of the Extremely Neutron Deficient Nuclei 169Ir and 110Xe
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes new results obtained from experimental studies of the extremely neutron-deficient isotopes 169Ir and 110Xe, close to the proton drip-line. The experiments use state-of-the-art equipment for nuclear spectroscopy where a large high-resolution Germanium-detector array is coupled to a high-transmission recoil separator and using the highly selective recoil-decay tagging technique.
