16. Study of serotonin, innervation and sensory neuropeptides in allergic contact dermatitis
Sammanfattning : In a murine model of contact allergy, 24 h after challenge with antigen, increased axonal growth using an antibody to growth-associated protein-43 (GAP-43) was seen in the epidermis and dermis of eczematous skin. Protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5) positive nerve fibres tended to increase in the eczematous skin. LÄS MER
17. 11C Molecular Imaging in Focal Epilepsy
Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is a common neurological disease affecting 6 million people in Europe. Early prevention and accurate diagnosis and treatment are of importance to obtain seizure freedom. In this thesis new applications of carbon-11-labelled tracers in PET and autoradiographic studies were explored in focal epilepsy. LÄS MER
18. Respiratory control in the newborn : central chemosensitivity, neuropeptides and nicotinic effects
Sammanfattning : Breathing is regulated by a complex network of neurons located mainly in the brainstem. For the newborn, it is critical for survival that a continuous respiration is established after birth. However, the regulation of respiration also undergoes maturation in the postnatal period. 19. Neuropharmacological studies of Parkinson's disease with some emphasis on serotonin transmission
Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by hypokinesia, rigidity, tremor, gait disturbances and depression. There is an accumulative of protein aggregates, Lewy bodies, which appear to begin in the brainstem and progress caudorostrally. LÄS MER
20. Influence of neuromodulators and mechanical loading on pathological cell and tissue characteristics in tendinosis
Sammanfattning : Background: Tendinosis is a painful chronic, degenerative condition characterized by objective changes in the tissue structure of a tendon. Hallmark features in tendinosis tendons include increased number of cells (hypercellularity), extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation and disorganized collagen. LÄS MER
