11. Bilateral neurogenic mechanisms following acute unilateral inflammation
Sammanfattning : The contribution of neurogenic mechanisms to inflammation has been extensively studied during the last decade, but provides no clear understanding of the bilateral changes commonly seen following unilateral stimulation. This work demonstrates that bilateral neurogenic mechanisms are a part of general host defence reactions following acute unilateral challenge, for the first time revealing that local anaesthetics applied contralaterally, might be used for therapeutic purposes in relieving pain and inflammation. 12. Neuropeptides in temporomandibular joint arthritis
Sammanfattning : Involvement of the peripheral and central nervous systems in the pathophysiology of arthritis has been suggested and neuropeptides are thought to participate in the mediation and modulation of the inflammatory process. The main objective of the clinical studies was to investigate the relationship between the presence of neuropeptides in the synovial fluid of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the stomatognathic symptoms and signs, including the intra-articular temperature (IAT), in patients with TMJ arthritis. 13. Vasomotor symptoms in postmenopausal women : the role of acupuncture and calcitonin gene-related peptide
Sammanfattning : A majority of postmenopausal women experience vasomotor symptoms, which have a significant impact on the women's quality of life. Estrogens are the treatment of choice but can for different reasons not be used by all women. There is therefore a great need for viable alternative treatments. LÄS MER
14. Tachykinergic mechanisms in atopic dermatitis
Sammanfattning : Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an often severely itching, chronic, inflammatory skin disorder and may worsen due to stress and anxiety. Tachykinins have been suggested to influence the level of inflammation as well as being involved in pruritus, stress and anxiety. LÄS MER
15. The role of substance P in respiratory control in the newborn : effects of morphine and nicotine
Sammanfattning : We breathe in order to maintain oxygen, carbon dioxide and pH levels within the physiological range in response to the metabolic demands of the body. To achieve this, the respiratory control system is dependent on input from peripheral and/ central chemosensitive areas and on participation of different neuromodulator systems. LÄS MER
