1. 11C Molecular Imaging in Focal Epilepsy
Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is a common neurological disease affecting 6 million people in Europe. Early prevention and accurate diagnosis and treatment are of importance to obtain seizure freedom. In this thesis new applications of carbon-11-labelled tracers in PET and autoradiographic studies were explored in focal epilepsy. LÄS MER
2. Taste Hedonics and the Intake of Alcohol and Food
Sammanfattning : This thesis includes four papers based on animal experimental work. They analyze the way in which activation of a specific motivational state - hunger- modulates the rewarding actions of alcohol and taste palatability. LÄS MER
3. Placebo, alcohol and flumazenil provocations : subjective and objective registrations in psychopharmacological experiments
Sammanfattning : Abuse and dependency of alcohol or drugs is a major problem today, with severe implications for society as well as for the individual. Treatment is often characterised by hard work and the road to recovery is (among other problems) paved with acute and protracted withdrawal symptoms as well as relapse. LÄS MER
4. Development of in vitro and ex vivo positron-emitting tracer techniques and their application to neurotrauma
Sammanfattning : The use of positron-emitting tracers has been extended beyond tomographic facilities in the last few years, giving rise to a general positron-emitting tracing technique. The methodological part of the present thesis involved the evaluation of the performance of storage phosphor (SP) plates, with tracers labeled with high-energy, short-lived, positron-emitting radionuclides, using homogenized tissue specimens and autoradiography with frozen brain sections. 5. Liquid Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry Analysis of Short-lived Tracers in Biological Matrices : Exploration of Radiotracer Chemistry as an Analytical Tool
Sammanfattning : Liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (LC-MS) methods were developed for the analysis of positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracers in biological matrices. Additionally, radiotracer chemistry was explored as an analytical tool for supporting LC-MS method development and imaging molecular interactions in miniaturised chemical analysis systems. LÄS MER
