11. Genetic Characterization of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors
Sammanfattning : Bone and soft tissue tumors (BSTT) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal and neuroectodermal origin. Although many BSTT are rare, it has become clear that BSTT are characterized by recurrent acquired chromosomal aberrations, and the general aim of this thesis have been to apply molecular genetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques to further characterize recurrent breakpoints and deletions, and to search for candidate target genes. 12. Oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes in human central nervous system tumours
Sammanfattning : Human central nervous system (CNS) tumours may arise from both developing and adult brain. Primitive neuroectodermal tumours (PNETs) are the most malignant tumours arising from developing brain, and constitute approximately one third of brain tumours in children. Other common paediatric CNS tumours are ependymomas and pilocytic astrocytomas. LÄS MER
13. Nestin regulation in the embryonic and adult CNS
Sammanfattning : The developing mammalian central nervous system (CNS), i.e. the brain and spinal cord, is generated from neuroectodermal stem/progenitor cells lining the neural tube. The CNS stem/progenitor cells proliferate and migrate to give rise to the three principal cell types in the developing CNS: neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. LÄS MER
14. The role of suppressor of fused in development and tumorigenesis in the mouse
Sammanfattning : Embryonic development is a process that involves a number of evolutionarily well-conserved signaling cascades, including the hedgehog pathway. Mutations in components of this pathway have been identified in certain developmental disorders, and in many different kinds of cancers. LÄS MER
15. Molecular genetic studies on gliomas and capillary hemangioblastomas of the central nervous system
Sammanfattning : The molecular genetic alterations associated with the initiation and progression of central nervous system tumors are complex and poorly understood at present. This thesis aims at the further elucidation of the molecular genetics of two important types of central nervous system tumors: gliomas and capillary hemangioblastomas. LÄS MER
