  1. 1. Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Tumor Growth Inhibition and Cartilage Differentiation

    Författare :Laura Varas; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; mesenchymal stem cell; Biomedical sciences; tumor growth inhibition; FGF2; cartilage; integrin alpha11beta1; integrin alpha10beta1;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis has been focused on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). In the two first studies, the effects of MSCs on tumor growth and development in vitro and in vivo was investigated. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Platelets – Multifaceted players in tumor progression and vascular function

    Författare :Yanyu Zhang; Anna-Karin Olsson; Gertraud Orend; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; Tumor; Platelet; HRG; PDGFB; TBK1; NETs; Angiogenesis; EMT; Metastasis; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Oncology; Onkologi; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Platelets play a crucial role for blood hemostasis, the process that prevents bleeding. In addition, platelets have been demonstrated to promote cancer progression and cancer related complications like metastasis and thrombosis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic Characterization of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

    Författare :Anna Dahlen; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; mesenchymal tumor; pericytoma; Genetics; chondroma; lipoma;

    Sammanfattning : Bone and soft tissue tumors (BSTT) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal and neuroectodermal origin. Although many BSTT are rare, it has become clear that BSTT are characterized by recurrent acquired chromosomal aberrations, and the general aim of this thesis have been to apply molecular genetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques to further characterize recurrent breakpoints and deletions, and to search for candidate target genes. 4. 4. Importance of Hyaluronan-CD44 Signaling in Tumor Progression : Crosstalk with TGFβ and PDGF-BB Signaling

    Författare :Helena Porsch; Paraskevi Heldin; Véronique Orian-Rousseau; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :extracellular matrix; growth factor; hyaluronan synthase; hyaluronidase; epithelial-mesenchymal transition; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In order for solid tumors to metastasize, tumor cells must acquire the ability to invade the surrounding tissue and intravasate into blood- or lymph vessels, survive in the circulation and then extravasate at a distant site to form a new tumor. Overexpression of the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan, and its adhesion receptor CD44, correlate with breast cancer progression. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular factors influencing epithelial-mesenchymal transition in breast cancer

    Författare :Gisela M A Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; epithelial-mesenchymal transition; c-erbB2; E-cadherin; NFI-C2; FoxF1; LOX;

    Sammanfattning : Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a developmental process defined by loss of epithelial characteristics and acquisition of mesenchymal phenotype. EMT or similar processes are also implicated in carcinoma cell invasion and the progression of breast carcinoma to metastasis. LÄS MER
