  1. 1. The Membrane Proteome : Evolution, Characteristics and Classification

    Författare :Markus Sällman Almén; Helgi Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; Marc Robinson-Rechavi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane proteins; Membrane proteome; molecular evolution; GPCRs; Dispanins; IFITM; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins are found in all kingdoms of life and are essential for cellular interactions with the environment. Although a large research effort have been put into this group many membrane proteins remains uncharacterized, both in terms of function and evolutionary history. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Membrane effects on proton transfer in cytochrome c oxidase

    Författare :Linda Näsvik Öjemyr; Peter Brzezinski; Anthony G. Lee; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrom c oxidase; lipids; membrane; proton transfer; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The biological membrane is composed of lipids and proteins that make up dynamic barriers around cells and organelles. Membrane-spanning proteins are involved in many key processes in the cell such as energy conversion, nerve conduction and signal transduction. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of proton-coupled electron transfer in cytochrome c oxidase : The role of membrane potential, proton pathways and ATP

    Författare :Markus Björck; Peter Brzezinski; Thorsten Friedrich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; charge transfer; membrane potential; membrane protein; mitochondria; ATP; proton pump; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome c oxidase (CytcO) is the final electron acceptor of the respiratory chain. In this chain a current of electrons, derived from degradation of nutrients, along with protons, are used to reduce oxygen to water. The reaction is exergonic and the excess energy is used to pump protons across the membrane. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; microscopy; plasma membrane; membrane proteins; membrane proteins diffusion; single-molecule imaging; single-molecule tracking; pentameric ligand-gated ion channels; nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; serotonin receptor; synapse; neuromuscular junction; post-synaptic scaffold; rapsyn; myopathies; fluorescent proteins; Förster resonance energy transfer; FRET imaging; protein-protein interactions; protein trafficking; photo-activatable proteins; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane protein dynamics is of great importance for living organisms. The precise localization of proteins composing a synapse on the membrane facing a nerve terminus is essential for proper functioning of the nervous system. In muscle fibers, the nicotinic acetylcholine is densely packed under the motor nerve termini. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Development of Surface-Based Methods for Studies of Non-Electrolyte Membrane Transport

    Författare :Seyed Tabaei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane junction; surface plasmon resonance; membrane transfer; supported lipid bilayer; quartz crystal microbalance; aquaporin; bicelles; fluorescence microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane-transport proteins are a diverse family of proteins that all span the cell membrane where they control the transfer of nutrients, metabolites and ions into and out of the cell. Due to their vital role for the function of cells, reliable methods, preferably with high-throughput capacity, to study this class of proteins are essential in fundamental studies as well as in discovery and development of new drugs.
